I had a c-section 7 months ago and I just found out I am pregnant again. My babies will be 15 months apart. I am concern about not having enough time to heal my first c-section before having another child? Did anyone have 2 c-sections? How far apart were they? Did you doctor suggested waiting a minimum time between kids? Please share your story. TIA
Re: Repetitive c-sections
I'll try to keep this relatively short.
We conceived 8 months after giving birth to our DD. Our first OBGYN wanted to schedule a second csection but we do not want to so we switched to a doctor that is willing to let us try for a VBAC with the understanding that I would need to have monitors on me to check for signs that my uterus might rupture. What makes you a good candidate for a VBAC depends on the reason for your csection too. Just the time between delivery and conception is not a good enough cause to eliminate VBAC as an option. Your OB can talk to you about it. Be prepared for lectures and naysayers because docs and hospitals are so concerned about lawsuits that they would rather cut you open then try for a natural birth.
As long as you do not get induced with the second baby the chance of rupture is minimal. My doc said 1 in 3000 at the hospital where we will deliver have rupture issues but if you induce, that % increases dramatically. Check out the VBAC board, plenty of women on there to talk to about your situations. You can also check the ICAN sites for a chapter near you and other VBAC support groups. You can google for VBAC friendly doctors.
Good luck!
I had my c-sections almost 18 months apart. I got pregnant when DS was about 8 months or so. My Dr. was fine with it, and even now said we could try for # 3 whenever we wanted to. I think there are different views by each Dr, as some seem to be more liberal than others.
During my pregnancy with #2 I had no pain or complications. Both of my c-sections were uncomplicated and the healing process was easy for both. Good Luck
VBAC is not on my plans anywat. My first c-section was elective (yes, because I wanted). I know that sound very strange for ladies in this country, but in Brazil it's pretty common. You actually just have birth naturally there if you don't have health insurance, otherwise 80% of the time they are elective c-section like mine. I did have my baby here in the US though. Anyway ladies, thanks for the info. I was a little concerned about having 2 kids via section too close together, but it seems our bodies can handle it just fine. My 1st pregnancy and section recovery was a breeze, hoping it stays the same this time around. Any Feb 2013 mommas here?
this exactly for me too
*lurking*
I got pregnant when DD2 was 4 months old so my c-section will be 12 months and 2 weeks from my last one (assuming this one doesn't decide otherwise lol). Doc isn't concerned at all!
