Pregnant after 35

Dizziness question

I am almost 5 weeks but I am already having major dizziness.  I get really happy when I get dizzy because it means that I am pregnant, but it is also a little concerning to me.  It doesn't happen just when I get up but a random times like while I am sitting at my desk.  Today I had to grab on to the elevator wall because I felt like I might fall over.  I am drinking plenty of water so it is not from dehydration.

Any tips for dealing with dizziness?

Re: Dizziness question

  • This happened to me especially early on as well. I thinkif your blood pressure tends to be low this tends to happen. I don't think it is dangerous so long as you don't fall over. I would suggest just being very careful when you stand up and do so very slowly, preferably holding on to something.

I actually saw stars once when I stopped my bicycle suddenly to yell at a car that was about to run me over when I was about 12 weeks along. That was really weird and scary, but my dr was not concerned about that either and blamed it on my blood pressure.

  • I didn't have dizziness until start of my 2nd trimester. In addition to plenty of water, my dr recommended a high protein snack between meals.

  • I would make sure you are eating small meals throughout the day. I hope it goes away soon.

  • I have been having the same issues but i'm 23 weeks today. I just came from my OB and was discussing this with her and she said that she thinks i'm hypoglycemic. Her suggestion fro me was to eat a high protein snack or drink a glass of skim milk every 2 hours. I also work in outside sales and live in a very hot city so i need to be extra careful.

  • I had the dizzies really bad from 5-7/8 weeks.  I just had to take deep breaths and wait for it to pass.
