Alternative to Piper & Harper gaining popularity in the next few years?

Fifer.

I just read a few articles on name websites and blogs after coming across this name on Nameberry and googling it.

A few blogs and sites predict that it follows in Harper and Piper's footsteps and will start to gain popularity with parents looking for an alternative.

The more I let it sink in, the more I don't mind it.

WDYT? Do you think it will catch on eventually?

Hmm it does kinda grow on me but......

I think Harper is popular due to celebs. So, not sure it would go anywhere without a similar boost.

  • I get where they got it from, but honestly it sounds kind of ridiculous to me. It also reminds me of a phonetic spelling of Pfeiffer or something. As far as I can tell it has zero history as a name and thus fits in the category of youneek/trying-too-hard for me.

  • Not a fan. Reminds me of Michelle Pfieffer.

  • Pfieffer has come up a couple times on the board usually mixed in with other names and it gets bashed pretty hard. I do not like it, but I also don't like Piper or Harper and Fifer sadly makes sense as being in the same line as them.

  • I laughed IRL when I read that.

No, no, I just don't know if I could take someone named Fifer seriously. It sounds so silly to me.

I don't know...maybe. I don't like Harper, but I do like Piper. I wouldn't use Piper because I don't feel it ages well. Fifer just sounds too froofy/fluffy too me.

  • Like Piper. Like Harper. Fifer is awful imo.

  • A friend of mine in high school was named Jennifer, and we called her Fifer as a nickname (this was a friend-bestowed nickname, partly to distinguish her from the 3 other Jennifers in our group). As a nickname, I think Fifer is cute and spunky. I definitely wouldn't use it as a given name, though.

This. To me it sounds more like a name for a puppy.

  • I was chatting with my husband on the phone over his lunch break about this and he said "that sounds like a cool name." I just thought I should add this to be fair. ;)

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies!

It's definitely not a name I'd seriously consider using (I can't even wrap my mind around Piper) but it's interesting to think about names that wouldn't even be considered now, one day being on the charts. Maybe this one never will be...who knows.

  • No, it sounds like the name of a pet.
