Cradle hold with ring sling?

I recently bought the Taylormade jersey.material water ring sling, and the instructions only have vertical carries. I thought that a more horizontal nursing type hold was what ring slings were for. Is it wrong or unsafe to use this.type of hold? I would not be using it in the water that way, just as a light summer sling. Any tips? Also, I feel.nervous about the vertical' legs out' hold with my baby, it just doesn't feel secure.enough, the material goes to the back of his knees, but I still feel like he's going to fall out of the bottom :/ Tia!

  • You can put them in the cradle hold to nurse but it isn't recommended other than that.  It is really for the baby to have the chin to the chest in this hold which can cause them to have troubles breathing.  You can also do the vertical hold with the legs froggied.  Make sure that the inner fabric is up to at least the babies belly button.

  • How old or what weight is the frog position recommended until?  I love it, but don't want to abuse it!

  • Neither of my kids would allow a cradle hold unless there was a boob in their mouth. Vertical holds done correctly are perfectly safe. You just need to make sure the inner rail is nice and tight.

You can do froggy style until froggy ticks off baby and by that point they should be big enough to sit with their legs splayed out.

  • The general rule of babywearing is that your baby has to be visible and kissable. If you can't look down and kiss the top of their head, they are too low or in an unsafe position.
  • One thing that made me feel better about the legs out thing (although I'm not sure it's "approved") is putting the baby's arms out on the top. She likes it and is comfortable and I feel like if nothing else her armpits will catch her if it gets to loose on the bottom, but I've never actually had a problem.

With regards to froggied legs, it's all about baby's preference. My daughter was done froggying before 2 months because she just didn't like it. Other babies might like it best that way for longer.
