TTC after 35

Accupuncture....any info appreciated.

I have found 2 acupuncturist in my town and have teleconferences scheded with both. What di I need to ask/look for? And if you've done this...what was your experience and did you benefit from it?

Thanks!

Re: Accupuncture....any info appreciated.

  • I would look for one that specializes in infertility.  The one I saw did and she was VERY knowledgeable.  She prescribed herbs and I did a few treatments.  It was super relaxing.  I only stopped because of the expense.

  • Ditto PP.  Make sure they specialize in IF.  I went to a regular acupuncturist for six months.  Nice guy, kept my migraines to a minimum, but could not get me to ovulate or regulate my cycle.  My current acupuncturist has kept me on 28-32 day cycles even without Femara.

  • They both say they offer infertility treatments, but do not specifically specialize in infertility by ant means. I live in a small town compared to a lot of you...and I just don't wasn't to waste time or money on someone blowing smoke up my a$$ giving me false hope. More than I give myself.... This is just something I know absolutely nothing about but am interested in pursuing if it could be beneficial

  • I've been doing acupuncture 8 months now. I think the biggest benefit is relaxation, although my lining during both IVF cycles looked really great and my RE said acupuncture can help with the ute lining.

My acupuncturist specializes in IF, that's it. The only folks coming / going from his office are women TTC. He has prescribed supplements and herbs, of which some of them have been proven to slightly help follicle health. (They are not cheap)

My take : I enjoy going, the first 30min we talk about my current cycle, how i'm feeling, my emotions, and the second 30min is the actual treatment. I really value that time speaking with someone very knowledgable about IF.  It's not cheap, I pay 95$ a week (not covered by insurance).  But by seeing him, I have gained a wealth of knowledge about IF, I'm part of a community he has that shares ideas, emotions, etc.  It's really nice to be part of a group that "get's it".

  • I never did the acupuncture even though it was recommended. Even before and after my IVF they recommended the laser acupuncture and I declined it. I agree with others it's to relax you. I think if you can find calm and peace on your own it's not necessary.
  • I would ask to speak to some references, specifically related to fertility.
  • I have been going since October for several of my cycles. It doesn't work immediately but I do believe it has helped with some of my more recent cycles.

My guy has a lot of fertility patients but that is not all he does. He is very knowledgable about the out and if process and what I really liked about him was that he didn't prescribe the herbs for me because the can interfere with BMW results and make them more difficult for the doctors to read so I felt he was respectful of working in conjunction with my doc.

I have a hard time relaxing so sometimes I go a little crazy waiting for the treatment to finish but that's gotten better as of late.

Another added benefit is an increased libido :)

    Good luck!

TTC since 3/2010. Me 41, DH-49. After 3 years, 6 IUIs and several IVFs we have finally have our beautiful baby girl, born on 11/7/13.

  • I went for several months last year, I also found it very relaxing and my cycles seemed to lengthen by a day or two which was interesting. I had one chemical during that time, I never took the herbs she prescribed, 1st, they're too expensive and 2nd most RE's recommend you dont take them when doing a medicated cycle and my Accupuncturist agrees. My temps did look a bit better as well, more consistent and my temp jumped better after I O'd.

I'd love to go back but at $110 a pop its too steep right now, plus I was getting a little stressed rushing to the appts after work. The one month I decided to take a break from the acupuncture I got my last bfp so who knows...
