C-sections

How long did you wait to have visitors?

I am scheduled for a c-section on the 9th at 2pm, which they said is a loose time and that depending on emergencies and other situations it could potentially be pushed up to 4pm. Then I'm in recovery for 2 hours (hospital policy) and not allowed to have visitors, then I get wheeled to my room. Visting hours end at 8pm. How long after your c-sections did you feel up to visitors?

  • My parents and my daughter saw me in the recovery room.  I felt really good so I was up for immediate family visiting when I got to my room.  But if I had felt really crappy I would have had everyone wait.  I would wait to see how you feel before you make any decisions.

  • Immediate family was there a few hours later. Anyone else, I wanted the IV out, catheter, etc. and I wanted to be up and walking. I told everyone else to come next day.........

I had visitors in recovery about an hour after surgery finished. I think. I was fuuuuuckedup after 23 hours of labor, 4 hours of pushing, 40 hours of being awake, and a buttload of morphine.

I think you'll be fine to have visitors when you get to your room.

  • I had my mom and DH with me almost the whole time (except when they have to leave per hospital policy from 11 pm to 6 am).

I think my ILs didn't visit till the next day? That was fine with me because for the first 6 hours post surgery, you can't move, you're attached to a catheter and you're bleeding into a pad on the bed. Not the most attractive or comfortable time. I wouldn't request visitors (other than my mom and DH and my kids) until the next day when I was able to get a shower or at least walk around).

Also, my c/s for DS was scheduled for 8 am and it kept being postponed until I was in at noon. Just letting you know it COULD be more than a 2 hr delay.

  • I think our families came back after 1.5-2 hours. At my hospital, you recover in your room and we could have visitors right away, but I wanted the time to start nursing.

My parents were waiting for us when we went up to our room after being in recovery. They only stayed for about an hour. This was around 8pm. The next day we had more family come, but I was so drugged up and out of it I didn't interact with them very much. It would have been much better if we had waited another day to have visitors.

  • If I were you, I'd ask for visitors to wait until the next day.

Best suggestion!! C-sections can be really rough. Besides, you're going to want the time to bond with your newborn.

  • I had family in the waiting room both times. With my 1st I had no issues & felt up to visitors right after the mandatory recovery time.

With my 2nd I felt really sick by the time I got to my room. (I think it was b/c I had a shot to help speed up the clotting & another shot for itchiness they said was caused by the anesthesia.) Thankfully everyone understood. Once I said I felt sick & asked for a barf bag they scattered quickly. Big Smile It was a good 3-4 hours before I felt better.

Anyone outside of close family (who wouldn't be offended if you didn't feel up to visitors) I'd ask to wait until the next day.
