Babies: 9 - 12 Months

FF...when did you drop 1 bottle?

I know the formula/bm is the most important until 1, but I know at 1 years old you don't magically go from 4 bottles a day to none.   Dd gets 4- 6 oz bottles a day (9,1,5,9). She has not been finishing her bottles at 1 and 5... I was thinking of dropping the 1 pm bottle and giving her either 7 or 8 oz in all the others.  So my question is:

At what age did you go from 4 bottles to 3 bottles and which bottle of the day was the first to go?

Re: FF...when did you drop 1 bottle?

  • My LO is not on a strict schedule, but she was eating 4 - 7oz bottles a day around 5:30, 10:30, 2:30 and 6:30. She wasn't finishing her middle bottles either. So, we just dropped her to 3 bottles about 1 week ago. Actually, right when she turned 9 months!

Right now she gets 4-5 bottles a day (6 am, 10 am, 2 pm, 5 pm, 7 pm). Sometimes she doesn't take the 5 pm and gets more at 7 pm.  She takes 24 oz a day. She has never really taken more than 6 oz at a time.

We plan to follow a similar plan like we did with DD1 which is as follows.  At 10.5 months drop the mid morning bottle, so she only gets 3 a day.  At 11.5 months drop the morning bottle and just give her the afternoon and bedtime bottle.  At 12 months drop the afternoon bottle.  At 13 months drop the bedtime bottle.  Right now she gets just water in her sippy, but at 12 months we will start giving her WCM in it.

  • Oh, and we now feed her around 6:30, 12:30 and 6:30!
  • DS still gets 4 bottles (cups really) a day, dropped from 5. At a year the formula will just be replaced by milk and 4oz instead of 5.

  • At a year pedi said he should have between 16-24oz.  So, as long as you are giving in that range I wouldn't worry about the number of bottles.

  • When LO only drank 1-2 oz of her Noon bottle (7:30, 12:30, 5:30, 7:30) and would finish it later, we dropped a bottle by delaying it a couple hours (7:30, 2:30, 7:30).  GL.

  • At DD's 9 month appointment, her pedi said that she was probably having too much formula and suggested dropping a bottle.  She said that from 9-12 mos, she should be having 18-24 oz/day, and to shoot for the lower end of that range.  Before that appointment, DD was having about 26-28 oz/day in four bottles.  So we dropped a bottle, and DD doesn't seem to miss it at all.  She's now having 20-22 oz/day in three bottles.

  • around 9 months we dropped to three bottles.  She was not finishing either of the day bottles so we just pushed the 2nd bottle from 11 to 2 and gave her a snack at 11 and lunch around 12:30 and then the bottle before her nap.  She does pretty well with this and finishes a 6 oz bottle which is great.  Right now she gets about 20 oz a day which is 14 of formula and 6 oz of whole milk.
