Many parents do not see the concerns or health risk associated with crib bumpers due to the simple fact that they are everywhere. When you go into the stores, every crib has a bumper pad on it, so it?s advertised that they are a standard and safe part of the crib bedding. What parents need to know is that just because they have been around forever and they are widely used does not mean that they are safe. Facts are facts. Let?s just look as some statistics from the state of Maryland. About 50 infants in Maryland die each year due to sudden infant death syndrome, most likely related to unsafe sleeping conditions, according to a DHMH press release. In 2010, there were eight infant deaths in Carroll County, and 496 in the state; the cause of these deaths is not clear, according to Barbara Rodgers, the Carroll County Health Department?s Health Planning and Community Improvement director. Data for 2011 is unavailable, she said. Research has shown that crib bumper pads can suffocate babies, possibly leading to the infant?s death, according to DHMH Secretary Joshua Sharfstein. With that being said I feel that every parent needs to have access to this information. There are health warnings on certain toys, foods, and other dangerous items. Why isn?t there one on crib bumpers?
Parents need to understand that there are other options out on the market that are safer. As a parent myself I feel that my child needs protection for her head against the crib bars. I know I would not like to be woken up from a deep sleep because I rolled over and hit my head against a crib bar. Therefore, I feel there needs to be some sort of padding on the crib bars that will not cause suffocation, become a step for my child to boost herself out of the crib, or something that my child could become entangled in. After researching the two options (the mesh bumper and the vertical bumpers) that are excluded from the bumper bans I am extremely impressed with the vertical bumpers. They are also called the Wonder Bumpers. These not only provide the protection that I?m looking for, they are safe, and they are adorable too! I?m happy to know that this is a product made from moms? that found a fantastic solution to a very scary problem.
Re: After getting all of the info would you still buy a traditional bumper?
