Two Under 2

For those who had a PP hemmorage

Hi, my daughter is 4 months old, and in a few months I'd like to start trying again. I hemmoraged a few hrs after she was born, and I'm concerned about the chances of it happening again, and what your experiences were.  TIA!

Re: For those who had a PP hemmorage

  • I'm an L&D nurse...here's my opinion.  The more babies you have the increased chance you have to hemorrhage.  That combined with the fact that you had one with your first, there is a good chance of another.  There are people who don't, but if someone tells us they had one before, we watch closely for another.  Some doctors are proactive and will give additional meds after delivery to try to prevent another, but some don't.

  • I had one the first time and was able to talk my doctor out of giving me a blood transfusion (retained placenta was the culprit) and I had one this time as well. However, since I had the same doctor for both deliveries, he had medications ready and gave them to me right away. Two weeks after delivery, I started having HUGE clots again so he called in a rx and that pretty much took care of it. I don't know that having them so close together was necessarily a factor, but as the L&D nurse said, if you have one, chances are good you'll have it again. Good luck to you!
