Trying to Get Pregnant

ED vs EOD

What are your thoughts about sex everyday vs sex every other day?  When we were first TTC, my obgyn said EOD so that's what we did and are continuing to do this time around (at least for the time being).  Just wondering about what others do and the reasons behind it.

Re: ED vs EOD

  • We aim for EOD because #1 I don't know when my FW is because my cycle is messed up from breastfeeding and #2 we're still trying and hoping to catch the first egg, so ED would be exhausting! haha.

I've read that ED during FW is fine if you're husband doesn't have any issue with sperm count or what not. If/when I figure out my cycle, I'll aim for ED during FW.

  • We are on our 7th cycle and we've done all different timing options.  ED was ok the first couple of cycles, then it became too much for us and with no results of being KU, we figured we'd cut back.  This cycle has been the best as far as EOD sex, I get up with H before he goes to work and I'm able to go back to sleep before I have to get up for work/school (H leaves at 4:30am).  We don't feel like we have to have sex 5-7 days in a row and we know we're covered as far as timing.  Being in our 7th cycle, we can't help but to begin wondering what's going on (even though it's way too early to be doing that) so EOD is somewhat comforting for H because he is not worrying about his supply.
  • Funny that you ask this because I was just looking up this topic in TCOYF.  We did ED this cycle, but in the past have mostly done EOD.  TCOYF states that ED is best as long as there are no spearm issues.

That makes sense about the sperm issues.  And I know what some of you mean - ED can be exhausting!!
  • Last cycle we tried to doing ED, but when I ovulated later than I thought, we both got completely worn out.

This month we are going to do EOD until I get a positive OPK and then we will do ED until the OPK goes negative. That's the plan at least. Then we'll BD whenever we want during luteal phase :)

  • We tried EOD last cycle but will try ED this time during my FW - no known sperm issues, so we're just going to go for it

  • We try to get EOD, because ED gets to be a lot, especially when I'm not sure which day I'm going to O.
  • DH and I had sex ED for the first two cycles but we quickly realized that by the end of my FW we were both exhausted. In attempts to catch as many good days as possible without completely wearing ourselves out, we switched to EOD even through the FW. We haven't been tested so I have no idea if DH has any sperm issues, but I find the baby-making process a lot more enjoyable.

I'm a firm believer in doing what feels right, so the right answer may change from couple to couple.

We do ED and sometimes more ( newlyweds) but during my FW  I won't do more than 2x a day...  If we don't get KU this cycle though I am thinking about EOD during my fertile week next month... if DH will go for it.

We're aiming for ED during FW. DH has no know sperm issues so as long as our schedules work and we have the energy, we go for it.
  • We do EOD during fertile window.  Worked great to get our dfirst born, hoping it will work for our second.
  • I don't think ED is feasible for us!  And I really don't think it matters much.  DS was conceived with sex on o-2.  The sperm can live for a couple of days in your body.  I would also think sex ED would make conceiving too much like work.  I know that wouldn't be good for my husband at least.

The more recent research of the little valid scientific research that has been done on the subject has shown that you have a higher chance of conceiving with sex ED than with sex EOD (as long as there are no known fertility issues), but it's not really a big difference, so I really think it's a matter of preference. We've tried ED and EOD, and neither has worked. So for cycle 9 we decided we're going for a mix of ED and twice a day during the fertile window. I really don't think it will make a bit of difference, but we're going to be on vacation during my fertile window (so long as my cycle stays its regular ol' self) and we figured what the hell. At this point, it can't hurt.
