3rd Trimester

Any IUI'ers beyond your due date?

I am just wondering about the accuracy of the Due Date with IUI.  I understand the reason for the over/under by 2 weeks for natural pregnancy where the dr. is basically guessing conception based on your last period.  I am from the ttc>35 board and got pregnant thanks to IUI so I'm thinking they should have gotten pretty close with the real Due Date.

I'm just curious if anyone out there is an IUI grad who is over their due date or has any input?

9 days to go...and the suspense is killing me.

Re: Any IUI'ers beyond your due date?

  • I did IUI for my first pregnancy and DD#1 was born on her due date (on her own...no medical intervention). I think that's pretty rare, especially for a first pregnancy. I was getting so anxious towards the end...hang in there!

  • I am not an IUI responder, but in answer to your question, I don't think it really matters in the long run how you conceied. Women who chart and know ovulation and conception are in the same category as those with assisted fertility. What ultimately determines your baby's birth is the maturity of the lungs. That can vary from one woman to the next.

If you a first time mom, regardless of how you conceived, you are more likely to deliver after your due date.

Keep in mind, the longer your baby is inside you, the better the brain development. (I have to keep giving myself that pep talk every morning) :)

  • My friend conceived with IUI and went a week past her due date. I agree with the PP that it's not so much how you conceived. My husband and I were charting and I was taking letrazole (sp?) and so I know from a temperature shift within a day or so when I ovulated, but our six week u/s dated us as a week past where my ovulation date put us, and from what I understand the u/s is more accurate at that early stage. Not that I would mind if she were ready a week earlier, but I'm not counting on it. ;)

I have charted/temped each time--and went early my last two pregnancies--3 weeks and 2 weeks--

so like the pp said you just cant tell . . . I hope this one stays in at least until 38 weeks though.

  • DS was IUI w/ trigger and was born at 40w, 4d so before the average non-induced delivery date of 41w, 1d. The whole 40 week EDD is pretty wacky if you look at the history of how it came about. This came up in my Bradley classes with DS. I don't remember the details, but I remember realizing that 40 weeks was even more arbitrary than I'd already thought. Thinking of a range of 37-42 weeks  (and mentally thinking about the end of that time-line rather than the beginning, esp. for a FTM) is a better way to look at it, IMO.
