I mostly bought GMD prefolds, but I really loved the few workhorses I had, especially for nights. That being said, I wouldn't buy a whole stash of them, maybe 4-6.

I prefer the prefolds because they are more versatile (use a snappi, trifold it, stuff into pocket dipes). The workhorse are nice, but I can honestly put on a prefold faster than I can a workhorse. And they never really were very much more absorbent, IMO. They may last through a short nap, but definitely not much longer.
I like them both! Workhorses are easier to put on. Prefolds are more versatile as far as which fold, etc. I tend to reach for my PFs more if I'm using PUL covers but I plan to use tue fitteds with my wool.
I liked the workhorse while mine were little. i have tiny babies (6lb range), prefolds swallowed them until they were bigger...like probably until 7 months or so when i could trifold them. i'm a big fan of fitted diapers for the newborn stage, i could never put the prefolds on right when mine were so teeny

Re: GMD prefolds or workhorse?
It depends how much you want to spend...
