Soooo.... I have 2 grandparents still alive. My two Italian 96 year old grandparents. My grandmother has a bizarre gift. She just knows things. Like when the phone rang out of the blue one afternoon and she said "My sister Jenny just died." and it was her other sister calling to give her the news. Or when she said "It's too bad Jason and Lea are dating other people-- they would be perfect together." and then my brother Jason and Lea ended up (on their own, having no knowledge of my grandmother's proclamation) leaving their respective partners and now are happily married and own (and run) two amazing restaurants out in Chicago.
So when my grandmother-- whom we call M?m?-- called me today to ask how I was doing ("I didn't want to call earlier because it gets in your head when it's so recent"), I of course gave her my full attention-- even though I was driving home and should have put her on speaker phone.
My grandmother gave me the usual "I guess it's not meant to be, but it still hurts. You're strong, you'll get through this. So many people have miscarriages and then go on to have kids with no problem-- thank God you don't have problems like my friend Louise (you remember her, right? Carmine's wife; she played pinochle with us on Friday nights.)..."
And then she told me, "I know you're going to have more kids. And if M?m? says it, then it's true."
So there it is. M?m? has spoken. Boom!
(Maybe I should rent her out on a pay-per-consult basis?)
