Away overnight? please help

I am a lurker but maybe you ladies can help me out. My mom wants to take DD to visit my sister 3 hours away. They would be gone for 2 or 3 nights. We have never spent the night apart and we bed share. I have been racking my brain trying to decide if she should go or not. Would you ladies be comfortable with having your LO gone for that long? My mom is more than capable and my daughters favorite person in the world i just don't like being away from her i guess.

I would, but I also believe it's good for both kids and parents to be apart from each other periodically.

  • It really depends on the kid. With my son I'm still not ready. He's a really challenging sleeper and he and I have a good rhythm finally and I just don't want to mess with a good thing. I would also feel guilty making someone else deal with him at night.

With my daughter I'm not ready yet because she's little and breastfed but she's a much more laid back sleeper and I imagine I'd be ready to send her with my mom for a few days once she's one or so.

  • I couldn't.  We used to let our oldest 2 spend the night with family, and we started with them when they were around 2yo, but now I wouldn't (and we don't have a relationship with those family members anymore).  I don't like being away from them for more than a few hours, and they don't go down at night very well without me around before 3-3 1/2y.

  • It's completely your choice but I would be so sad if my LO were away for that long. I get sad when he naps for too long and end up looking at pictures of him :/
