I am having my RCS at St. Peter's on Monday....Funny how I'm nervous for this 1 but wasn't for my 1st. But anyway, does anyone have anything I should be aware of or certain weird policies that other hospitals don't have? I'm hoping for a private room for all of the gas pain that follows. I'm also a GD so I hear their policy is baby in NICU for 3-4 hrs after.
Any other experiences good or bad??
My 1st baby was born at JFK.
TIA
Re: Any recent C-section at St. Peter's?
Yay! That sounds wonderful!
JFK in 2007 wasn't awful but wasn't wonderful. My 1st night I had my own room but 2nd night & the rest of my stay I had a double room. The other woman was giving up her baby for adoption & IDK I just kept getting emotional for her. Maybe the post partum hormones lol
A NICU team is present for all scheduled c-sections. If you have GD, the baby will likely make a NICU trip. If your baby has any signs of breathing issues (not uncommon in scheduled c-sections since babies don't get squeezed through the birth canal to get fluid out of their lungs, it's an automatic 24 hour stay in the NICU (just so you don't panic if that happens!)
Make sure your dh brings his camera in!!! We had a father a couple months ago with no camera or phone with a camera! I felt terrible - the nurse told that everything had to be super sterile so he didn't realize he could have his camera!
The ORs are really small and cramped but your dh can go get pictures of the baby on the warmer. Obviously he doesn't want to get in the way of the NICU team doing their assessment but it's really hard to see what's going on from the operating table - my one "complaint" about St Peter's c-sections. Don't be afraid to ask to see the baby and don't let your dh be afraid to ask to take a picture. Some of the nurses get so intense on doing their jobs that they forget that there is a mom and dad dying to meet their baby.
Most of the rooms are singles so it shouldn't be an issue!
