transition to milk...

I have been trying to get LO to take a sippy with milk and she refuses. She loves any other form of dairy though; cheese, yogurt etc. I am wanting to slowly start to ween her or just have her choose it all together but she hates milk in a cup. I have warmed it up too thinking that maybe that would help her like it but nope.

Any other moms doing this and experiencing the same thing? I was thinking about trying goats milk or something else to see if she would like it more but i just don't know where to go from here other than keep trying. Any suggestions?

Re: transition to milk...

  • If they are eating a balanced diet and getting dairy from other sources, babies don't need milk.  I gave my daughter a 1/2 milk, 1/2 Formula, she didn't seem to notice a difference.

  • i've been giving my 10 mnth baby boy 2percent milk and he tends to drink it just fine. i give him chocolate milk or milkshakes! he loves them.
  • Is she formula or breast fed? Whichever it is, give her 3/4 of whatever she's used to and just 1/4 part cow's milk. Then slowly increase.

This is the only thing that worked for us.  Also, if she is used to taking formula from a bottle, you can continue to give her the milk from a bottle until she gets used to it, then do the transition to a sippy (this is what our pedi recommended) because its hard to tell if its actually that she doesnt like the milk or just isn't wild about drinking it from a sippy.

I believe babies do need whole milk or at least 2% until their second birthday.  I'm sure they could get plenty of the nutrients from other foods but I wouldn't count on that.

OP, I would also suggest starting out slowly with 3/4 formula, 1/4 milk and work your way up.  Or try chocolate milk and see if she likes that to get her used to it.  My pedi said chocolate milk had the same nutritional value as whole milk so worth a shot.
