3 hour glucose test

Hello Ladies, I failed!  this is the one test I couldn't study for.  I was told to schedule an appointment with a dietician.  Anyone have any experience they would like to share?  What kind of foods they had to eat?  Definitely no icecream??? :)

Re: 3 hour glucose test

  • Sorry you failed. Once I met wirh the diabetes care center and got a meal plan together, I felt a lot better. You'll probably be alloted a certain amount of carbs per meal and snack, so if you are able to fit ice cream in there, it's not necessarily off limits. :) One tip I have for you is to consume olive oil with your meals. It has really helped me minimize blood sugar spikes. I also eat a lot of cheese because the carbs are few if any. I would be happy to share more with you. Feel free to Pm me. Once you get in a routine you'll feel a lot better I'm sure. Best of luck to you.

  • I'm sorry you failed :( It really sucks. I was basically given a diet plan/schedule with specific portions of carbs and proteins at each meal. Basically the diet comes down to balancing the carbs you eat with enough protein and fiber to keep your blood sugar stable. You'll also be given a testing schedule, based on how closely your doctor feels your sugars need to be monitored. Some people test as often as before and after every meal. I only tested my fasting and one post meal, three days/week.

Once you start testing, you'll be able to figure out exactly which foods affect your numbers, and where you might be able to cheat a little. For example, pizza would put me out of range, but ice cream wouldn't do a thing.

As PP said, feel free to PM me if you need any food ideas or even just someone to vent to.
