Did you buy a lot of new clothes? We saved everything from DD1, and they will only be a few months apart, so I know a lot of sizes will match up with seasons. I haven't bought anything new yet, and I know I will once I get the urge to shop:) I just feel really bad giving everything second-hand.
Re: STM...especially those having 2 of the same
I think I've bought one onesie and my mom bought a few little things but that is it...once we settle on a name I'll buy a going home outfit and hat but that will be about it...I still haven't unpacked the newborn clothes I had so we'll see what we have!

My Girls are gonna be born in different seasons, DD1 is a Spring baby as her bday in the begining of April and DD2 is a Fall baby being due the begining of September.
So right now, I am actually going though DD1's baby clothes to see what will and wont work for DD2. So far DD 2 will have a TON of onsies and quite a few sleepers. So, so far I know I will need to look into some little coats and some cotton pants and such. And of course some special holiday outfits but other than that I think we will be good.
I have already bought DD2 her coming home outfit and a cute outfit that say " Born in 2012" and For both the girls I have order a "Big Sister, Little Sister" Shirt/onsie to have pics taken in.
I did buy some new stuff b/c DD was born in March. So, they will be in different seasons. Hopefully not forever though.
I have two boys now, and the only thing I really NEEDED was summer clothes, and some warm 12 month stuff for DS2 because the seasons were opposite (September and January) We were team green with DS2, so I did pick up a few gender neutral newborn sleepers, just in case. (We knew DS1 was a boy, so EVERYTHING was blue!) We are team green for #3, so we are going to do the same, a few gender neutral things!
I ended up getting new stuff for DS2 anyway, my mom went shopping crazy, and then my girlfriends had a sprinkle after he was born for me. Plus i couldn't resist a few really cute things!!
Eventually, all cloths work regardless of seasons. ( They are in size 2 for a year for example)
Don't feel bad not buying new stuff mama!
That is the whole point of saving DD1's clothing and things. Save the money you would have spent and use it for something else she needs like diapers and wipes and whatnot or even put it towards a college fund or something.
Also, remind yourself that she is an infant, she doesn't care, nor will she remember, that she is wearing hand me downs. When she gets to the age where she is picking out her clothes and no longer wants hand me downs, then you can buy her new stuff but enjoy the benefit of two of the same gender while it lasts
For us we are just going to make sure we do not put the same outfit on for individual holiday photos. Not that I think the kids will care when they get older and look back at the baby photos but I want them to be able to tell their solo pics apart in case I dont get around to labeling everything. My sister and I wore the same holiday clothes and we also happen to look A LOT a like so we had to guess on some photos who was who because they didnt all have dates.
I have only bought a couple little brother shirts, but very little. We're planning to reuse as much of DS#1's clothes.
However, he was born in January, so now that I think about it, all his 6-9 month clothes will be shorts/short-sleeves. So we'll probably have to invest a bit more then since DS#2 will be wearing those in March-May timeframe, where it's still pretty cold in WI.
Big Kid Jan 2010
Littlest Man Sept 2012
DD2 October 2010
DS September 2012
Actually new? I bought one dress the day we found out she is a girl.
As of right now, my plan is that DD will be wearing a good half of what DS wore for her first couple years. I've bought a few things at yard sales, but I've already gone through DS's clothes and salvaged at least 50% that DD can wear.
The caveat is that a woman who works with MiL is supposedly sending me preemie-3T clothes from her daughter. The seasons will be a bit off (her daughter was born August 17th, but at 28 weeks), but I'm hoping between her clothes and DS's, I won't really have to buy much for years. I don't care at all that they aren't new.
We have received a few new items for this baby as gifts but we haven't gone out & bought anything new yet. DS was born in March and this LO will be in September so I know the seasons/sizes aren't going to match up. I figure I'll be fine for the first 3 months because they basically live in PJ's anyway.
Most of DS #1's clothes were second (or third, fourth) hand because kids outgrow clothing so quickly at that age. A friend passed on clothes to me that had been passed on to her. The stuff looks practically new.
Only a few things -- one or two things on sale, two or three hospital/coming home outfits and a couple little sister type onesies.
I still have to go through DD's clothes and then my SIL is putting aside my niece's good stuff.
Every time DD seems to grow out of a shirt or dress overnight, I just say, "Welp, time to put this in your sister's closet."
