Hi everyone. I'm a first time poster but I've been lurking for awhile. Still have to get a handle on all the abbreviations and what not. Anyway, I had a question about the ovulation predictor tests. I've been on birth control pills for 5+ years and just finished my last pack. I'm sure it's going to take awhile for my body to get back to normal...it's been two weeks and I'm definitely feeling not so great. I bought a few ovulation predictor tests, and I took one this morning. The instructions stated that one pink line means you're not ovulating, two pink lines detects that you're ovulating within 24-48 hours. I got one pink line, and one very faint second line. So I'm wondering, is this like pregnancy tests where a second line is a second line, no matter how faint? Does this mean I'm ovulating...or that I'll be ovulating within a few days? Definitely unsure of what is means. Or should I just ditch these tests all together and start charting my temp? Thanks in advance.

As PP said the test line has to be as dark or darker for it to be positive. If you haven't already, look into wondfos on amazon (they make HPTs as well). You can get a lot for cheap which is great because you go through them quickly. Many of us, myself included, also keep a box of digital OPKs on hand (I like the clear blue easy) so when you think you have a positive on the cheapier one, you can double check with the digi since the cheapie ones can sometimes be hard to read, especially when you are so badly hoping it's positive.
You can try charting, however it is not for everyone so don't feel like it's the only way to go..especially in the beginning many like to just "see what happens" for a while. TTC can be very stressful when you've been at it for a while so only you can know what would be stressful or not. I do chart but it is because I have very irregular cycles and haven't Od in 7 months...if I had regular cycles I would probably just stick to OPKs only. However as PP said, charitng is the only real way to confirm O. GL!

Unfortunately, darkness matters with OPKs. The second line should be almost as dark as the first, if not 100% as dark.
Maybe try charting next month and see if you can get a clearer confirmation?
