Cloth Diapering

Intro and Alva Q

Hi ladies! DH and I are expecting our first at the end of January and have decided we're going to try the cloth diapering route. I've been researching these like crazy, and every time I think I know what direction I want to go something else pops up. I do know I'm not really interested in the prefolds/covers. Definitely looking into AIO, pockets, and AI2 - OS, not sized.

I've recently come across Alva Baby diapers and have seen quite a few good reviews, and the price makes getting at least a few of them so tempting. One of my biggest "wants" is for a trim diaper. Fluffy butt is cute and all, but it would be nice to be able to put jeans on LO. Do Alva's make the cut as relatively trim or not so much since it's a pocket?

What is your favorite trim diaper?

Re: Intro and Alva Q

  • Sized diapers are trimmer than one-size diapers in my experience. I can easily fit jeans over my OS pockets, though. If you want them trimmer, you could look at the newborn Alvas; they'll be outgrown sooner, but will fit slimmer on a younger baby.

It's also good to get a few brands to try out, so there's no harm in getting some of one kind and some of another.

  • The trimmest diaper I've used is the Swaddlebees sized AIO or my Flips.  If trimness is super important to you, maybe look into a few sized diapers....in my experience they are always trimmer than a OS, especially early on.

I will say though, most of our diapers are OS pockets and even double stuffed, I've never had to size up his clothes.

  • Thanks for the input! I know sized are going to be trimmer but unfortunately I don't have the budget to shell out for them. Emsrdh03 - Glad to hear that your OS don't require sizing clothes up!

  • i have to agre with pp my swaddlebee's lg aio is the trimmest. i only have one but i love it. but i also like my grovia ai2's and kawaii's that are os. they are a little bulkier but not as bulky as bum genius in my opinion. i hear that the alvas are comparible to the kawaii's i've seen them in person and they do look alot like them them but i've never tried them on my LO.

  • You can always buy 1 or 2 sized if you want them for fashion reasons. And I've had a medium mini maestro that has fit DS for nearly a year... so they can last a long time depending how your baby grows. DS grew fast up to 4 months, then leveled off.
  • My Alva's are not trim.  They actually still don't fit my LO at 12 lbs and 8 weeks.  I do however think they will work good when she gets older.

Fuzzibunz were my trimmest diaper but I really disliked them and sold them.  BG 4.0 with the newborn insert are decently trim, I love those diapers.  I also love my Flips, they are decently trim.
