Wool and fleece users....convince me....

I can't believe I've been CDing for 3 years now and know nothing about wool/fleece shakers. Please explain and convince me to use them for our NB prefolds stage.

Re: Wool and fleece users....convince me....

  • I use wool over our fitted for naps, overnight and when DD has a bad rash. I love wool because it has been bulletproof for us in terms of leaks even with our tummy/side sleeper. I also love that along with our fitteds our DD is only wearing natural fibres, so her skin is able to breathe.

The maintenance also isn't that big of a deal. I've never used fleece, so I can speak for that.

  • I just started using wool this week.  No idea what I was afraid of before.  So far it has been AMAZING.  Totally dry, and I love that it is natural fibers touching his skin.  Lanolizing is no biggie, seriously.  Also, the care in between washing is so easy because you just hand it up to dry.  Only need occasional washing.

  • I thought I heard somewhere that you cannot put clothing over fleece/wool shakers so I guess they are for sleeping only?

I've put clothing over wool soakers/covers. I wouldn't put them over longies or shorties, because of bulk, but that's it. Never had a leak from it.

I don't have much experience with wool yet. With fleece soakers, I have noticed that her onesie or pants get damp if she wears the diaper for a while. That's a lot worse if she's sitting on her booster seat/tree swing/shopping cart - anything hard.

I LOVE using fleece soakers at DD's current age, but I don't know if I would have bothered with them for a newborn. Newborns lie still enough to snap or velcro a cover onto them, and you change them so frequently that covers are just easier. The reason I like soakers on DD is that I can yank them up while she's moving around.

I put fleece pjs over DD's wool soakers in the winter.  Never been a problem.  I don't use wool out and about during the day (only use it at home), so I can't speak to putting other types of clothing over it.

I've never used fleece.  I LOVE wool though.  It's amazing.  Super easy to care for, even though it seems intimidating at first, natural and breathable, prevents leaks, and when paired with fitteds is the best overnight combo IMO.  I'm planning to use it for a future LO#2.  I didn't start using it with DD until she was about 5 months old.

I've put pants and pj's over DD's wool soakers with no issue. Usually though if we're using it at home I just use the soaker as her bottom with bare legs in the warm weather, or babylegs in the cooler weather.
