Bottle Weaning

How'd you do it? Did your LO fight it?

We were down to sippy cup only for about 2 weeks. Then DD got sick & stopped drinking so I regressed & offered her a bottle to help her stay hydrated. Now that her antibiotics are done & she's drinking normally I'm trying to get rid of the bottle again. It's just the morning bottle, right when she wakes up. This morning I offered her the sippy & her favorite fruit thinking it would keep her mind off the bottle & she lost her mind. Pushing everything away, crying huge tears & screaming. Ummmwhat! Now I'm not sure how to take the bottle out, clearly she's more attached than I thought. I could just kick myself!

Re: Bottle Weaning

  • Mmm- she could be finding comfort in it since she is recovering. Maybe give it a few days and only offer in the morning? And sippy the rest of the day?

  • DS wasn't attached to his bottles and the day the dr said we could stop them, I did.  :/  Wish I had some advice!

  • we just stopped bottles this week. before it was the morning and night. I cut out the night bottle first and he did just fine (he tossed and turn a little more than usual but he didn't cry or anything) and then 2 days ago i cut out the morning bottle BUT he's waking early morning for a drink and then going back to sleep so its really awkward. like getting up making a sippy and going back to sleep sucks but today he woke up at 6:45 instead of 5:30 so hopefully its just a comfort thing and he's getting over it.

I wouldn't stress too much if its just the one bottle in the morning, seems like your almost there. Just keep offering the sippy until she gets that she won't be getting the bottle anymore. Maybe offer some solids first and bring in the sippy a little bit after she starts eating?
