Elevated Absolute Neutrophils?

I had my follow-up OB appointment today (30 weeks pg) and asked for a copy of my 1 hour Glucose / Anemia bloodwork for my records.

When I looked at them I was surprised to see they did a full CBC so of course I examined all of the results. My RBC, hemoglobin and hematocrit were all slightly low but what concerned me was the Absolute Neutrophils - they were 8133 (1500 - 7800).  The rest of my WBC was normal.

My BP has been fine and I don't have an infection that I know of...the doc didn't mention it at all which I'm guessing she would have if they were concerned....I don't really want to call the docs office, especially because nothing was mentioned to me about it.  So, I'll be that crazy person on The Bump first, LOL.

Anyone else with elevated neutrophils during pregnancy to levels like mine above?  Should I stop worrying?

Thanks!

Re: Elevated Absolute Neutrophils?

  • I don't even know what a Neutrophil is...

I'm guessing maybe this isn't something to worry about, especially if your doc didn't mention it

  • I didn't either!....I guess it's a type of white blood cell.

I need to stop looking for things to worry about....major fault of mine!! Indifferent

  • I wouldn't worry about it i believe the normal range extends to 8.0 so about 8,000 but during pregnancy your blood volume increases as does your white blood cell counts so i would have to believe that the number would be higher during pregnancy anyway since there is a larger amount of blood flow if your concerned about it you could ask what a normal pregnancy range would be. If your Dr. isn't worried you shouldn't be either. Take a deep breath and relax :)
