My dad finally called in and added me to his insurance! Thank God! I don't think he realized this one phone call is going to save me thousands of dollars. We also called yesterday and got things organized for when LO comes so they will be covered too!
I honestly think today is a total 180 from yesterday.

BFP1: DD1 born April 2011 at 34w1d via unplanned c/s due to HELLP, DVT 1 week PP
BFP3: DD2 born Feb 2013 at 38w4d via unplanned RCS due to uterine dehiscence
I have been on the policy before, it was just a matter of getting added back on. All bases covered, and a huge stress off my shoulders.
Im so scared of this happened to me.My husband is in the process of changing companies within the next month to a unionized company. I know there is a 3 month wait for insurance to kick in but the company pays for cobra for those three months. My husband has to get all the details but Im definitely scared that at 7 months pregnant they are going to deny me coverage.
I'm in the same boat - my husband starts a new job in a couple weeks, in a different state. The insurance doesn't kick in for 3 months, so we'll be paying for cobra until then, but I'm not sure the details of the new insurance, and if they'll cover maternity. If they cover it, I can switch at about 5 months. If not, I might end up having to pay for cobra for all 9 months... yikes. On the upside, our insurance is going to go from about $600 a month to about $75 a month for the family with his new job. BUT... our current insurance is really picky about which Dr I go to! I need to do some more checking, but for now the plan is driving 2 hours every month back to my current Dr until I switch to new insurance, because I don't see any Drs in my new state that are covered. Blehhh.
Good luck to all the ladies dealing with insurance changes!
This. Pregnancy isn't pre-existing if you are going from a group policy that coves it to another one... but they may deny the coverage if you did not have maternity coverage before/moving from individual to group and vice versa.
they aren't doing it to penalize people who get pregnant - it's how a calendar works. new year = new deductibles.
I didn't mean it literally. It feels like a penalty since they are capitalizing on the "calendar year" when it comes to health related items such as pregnancy that typically last the same length in term which more than often runs into two calendar years.
I realize what a calendar year is and how it works, but if you think about it doesnt it seem like they definitely are capitalizing on a majority of pregnancies soley due to the fact that the most of them will fall over two calendar years.
Think about it.
