Bed rails/new to board

Hello! My husband and I are expecting our first baby in less than a month (!) and are planning on sharing sleep with him/her in our bed. I don't think we can put our bed up against the wall, so I've started looking at bed rails. I've noticed that most of them say that they are not for children under 18 months or 2 years. Are there certain features of these bedrails that make them dangerous for babies sleeping in their parents' bed? Do we need one specifically designed for infants? Is there a better solution for safety?

Re: Bed rails/new to board

  • I don't think they have "infant safe" bed rails because the AAP tells everyone that no infant in an adult sized bed is safe.  We co sleep so we got some, just make sure they have the mesh/netting on them with holes so that in the extreme case of their face being pushed up against it, they could still breathe. We have use the ages 2+ bed rails since my son was 6 months old. My $0.02 on the subject! Good luck :)

  • Google Magic Bumpers. I just ordered some so can't comment on how they work yet, but they look good!
