Trying to Get Pregnant

Trying to conceive after Nuvaring? Help Ladies

Hey I was wondering if any of you lovely ladies can tell me your experience of ttc after using the nuvaring?

Such as, how long it took you to get pregnant (months, years, etc), have you seen a OB/GYN and what were there suggestions since you got off the nuvaring? Or basically any other info you ladies would be willing to share.

Re: Trying to conceive after Nuvaring? Help Ladies

  • Hi, welcome.  A lot of us on this board have never been pregnant, so you might get better advice on the 1st Tri board.

I stopped using my Nuvaring in January, and no BFP for me yet.  Start taking prenatals now, if you aren't already.  I also suggest charting your temperature and using opks, because youir cycles may be a bit unpredictable coming off bc.  GL!

  • Hello and welcome.  The Newbie link at the top of the page is a great place to start.  It's filled with helpful info and answers to FAQ's.

As for your Nuva Ring question, I would assume your body will react like most other birth control methods in that it can take up to 6 months for your body/cycles to adjust/become regular, or maybe you will go back to normal right away.  Everyone is different.

As for how long it takes - each cycle there is a 20-25% chance of conception.  Most healthy couples can take up to a year to become pregnant.

    GL and HTH!

  • This isn't really helpful info. but I have a friend who got pregnant in December while her Nuvaring was still in.  She keeps referring to herself as fertile myrtle... which I just love.  Anyhow, I think I read somewhere that it takes less time to readjust to normal cycles after the Nuvaring than it does traditional BC pills.  Not sure if that is actually the case.

  • With my son, I stopped Nuvaring about 6 months before TTC and started charting to get to know my cycles and to let everything regulate.  We got pregnant right away when we started trying.

I've been off it for about 6 months again this time and am currently on Cycle #3 waiting for my BFP!

  • *just here lurking for BFP's on this board*

I saw this post and thought I'd say, that with my first, I took out the ring and was pregnant that month.

I know it's different for everyone, BUT the whole reason I was on the ring in the first place was because of the low-hormone dose.

  • It was about 14 months of not trying to avoid, with 4 of TTC with temps and OPKs to have DD after I got off NuvaRing. The one month where I abandoned my OPKs and BBT because we were in the middle of an inter-state move...was when I got KU. I think most people have a shorter time adjusting after the NuvaRing, but if I could do it again I would temp from day 1 to get to know my body better. Good luck!

  • I got off Nuvaring in December 2008. My first cycle off of it was 50 days long. Next one was 20 days. My third cycle was 45 days and I got a BFP at the end of it.

    GL!

  • I am also TTC after NuvaRing. So far, we've been trying for a month. My OBGYN put me on NuvaRing because I overdosed on the pill by taking it 4 hours too soon (because I got up at 10A one morning and 6A the next). I LOVED NuvaRing... never gave me problems at all. I was on it consistently for 6 years.

At my last OBGYN appointment about 6 months ago I told my doc about our plans to starting trying and she told me to stop the Phentermine & start the prenatals a month before taking the NuvaRing out. She seems pretty confident that we would not have any problems conceiving whatsoever. I have noticed that it has thrown my cycle a bit (I don't do any of the temperatures, counting, etc - basically nothing out of the way) because I started spotting a week before I was supposed to have my period, then it came & went for about a week or so. I guess it might be different from the oral BC because she told my friend to stop taking her BC 4-6 weeks before TTC and use a condom during that time to get it all out of her system. She told me as soon as the NuvaRing was out for several hours that it was out of my system.

I believe stress is also a factor. Two of my friends tried and tried to conceive - didn't work. Then they took some time off work and bam. Good luck!
