So I was watching the view one day (while eating my bon-bons...I'm a stereotypical SAHM after Miley Cyrus announced her engagement. They were talking about whether she was "too young" to be engaged because she's only 19. The consensus was that since she was a celebrity she was more grown up than the "average" person would be at 19 so it was more acceptable.
Do you think hold celebrities to different standards than "regular" people?
Re: S/O willow smith
Ditto-I thought it was ironic that they were encouraging a young celebrity marriage, especially since celebrity marriages fail more often than the "average" person would.
I agree.
I agree-19 is too young to be married across the board.
However, on the show they did bring up a good point in the fact that at 19, she was already established in her career. My argument to people having kids/getting married young would be to finish school and get established in your career/financially before doing those things, but at that age she's already done that.
Well she's over the age of 18 so she's not too young to get married.
But do I think Miley Cyrus is ready? No. Do I think the marriage will see 1 year? No, I'll be surprised if it hits the alter.
I do think the celeb kids grow up faster. Do I think its good and that we should encourage them? No. But I think it happens.
I also think being a celebrity will add excess stress to an already stressful marriage and make them more likely to divorce.

I think the celebrity status is not going to help her marriage and I don't have high hopes. I think it's bizarre that anyone would say celebrity makes her more mature and ready to get married earlier.
As for having her career established, I think it's a mistake if she thinks that way. Having a career as a celebrity is often short-lived and very few have careers that last more than, say, 10 years. Hopefully she's investing her money well in preparation for early retirement, but even that doesn't guarantee security. If she's smart and mature, she has a plan B for an early retirement.
That said, I don't think there's a right or wrong answer on when is the appropriate age to get married and have kids. It's a personal decision that I wouldn't make for anyone but myself.
I do think there are very rare exceptions, but I think for the most part, people at 19 aren't ready in any way to pick a life partner.
Would you agree?
I wouldn't say "rare" that makes me sound like a red wolf.
but yes for a large number of people I don't think 19 is a good age. Then again some people should not be allowed to make life decisions at 25/30/40 etc. Some people never grow up, some grow up early and some do it on societies preconceived timeline.
Its all about the bell curve people.

Of course they do. There are always exceptions to the rule. Statistically, the vast majority of marriages under age 20 fail though.

As someone who got married at nineteen, is still happily married, and has a degree in mathematics, this is true. Exactly. Thank you.
