What are you reading right now?

I am reading an awesome book.  I read it years ago and forgot how good it is.  Anyone who enjoys historical fiction will like this, I think. It's called The King Must Die by Mary Renault, and it retells the myth of Theseus in an historically/archealogically plausible way.

Also it's got me dying to visit Greece.

What are y'all reading?

Re: What are you reading right now?

  • Shamefully, the Sookie Stackhouse Series.

I am also reading Ten Thousand Saints by Eleanor Henderson. I'm really enjoying it.

I wish this board had a book club.

This is my siggy. Love it.

  • 50 Shades, the first one.  It is taking me awhile to get into though.  I may not finish it.  I don't really see what all of the hype is about.  I mean really, how much sex can they have?

Don't feel ashamed!  I just re-read the Sookie books and finished the newest one last week.  I thought it was pretty good.

I'm reading Game of Thrones, Book 1.  It's taking me a while since I've already watched the first season, so I know the story.  I still like that I'm getting to know the characters better.

And H and I went to Greece in September on our HM and it was the best vacation I've ever taken.  We went to Athens, Mykonos and Santorini.  I want to go back so badly.

Ah, to be a GoT virgin again.  I'm jealous that you've got so much to look forward to.  And I'm also jealous of your Greece trip.

Yeah, the author is no literary genius, but it's definitely the sort of story that keeps you reading until 4 am. I was surprised by how loosely the TV series was based on the books.

  • Cleopatra and Antony by Diana Preston. I'm "meh" about it. I usually like nonfiction, but this one is slow going.

  • I just finished Michael Ian Black's memoir, which was not at all what I expected, but still good. I started this last night: https://www.cherylstrayed.com/wild_108676.htm

Synopsis copied from the website: the story of an eleven-hundred-mile solo hike that broke down a young woman reeling from catastrophe?and built her back up again.

    I like memoirs.

I am reading the latest Sookie book right now, so we can be ashamed together. Embarrassed

I finished the second FSOG book this weekend, and even though I still don't see what all of the hype is about, I did think the 2nd book was better than the 1st.  Guess I'll read the last book when it comes back to the library, just because I don't like not finishing up a series, but I really don't get why that book is so popular.

  • I'm also a reluctant 50 Shades reader, so I'm glad it is not just me.  Painfully finished book one, and just started two.  I only continue to torture myself so that I can be knowledgable on why America firmly has its head up its ass on why this book is ZOMG awesome.  I did see a funny yourecards today that said, "My only fear is that they'll cast Kristen Stewart in FSOG.".

DH told me she was being considered for the part last night. I'm so tired of her face everywhere.

Also, fun fact. Did you know that in whatever genre FSOG falls into on Amazon, it is the #1, #2, #3, and #4 most popular books? The trilogy all in one book is #4. Isn't that just ridiculous? Three books should not get four spots. Especially if they aren't mind blowing.

This is my siggy. Love it.

  • I finished The Paris Wife a few weeks ago, which was good, but a little boring, much like Hemingway's works themselves.

Now I'm reading The Mermaid Chair...it is a book that my book club read before I joined, so I'm just using it as a filler between our current reads, but so far it isn't bad.

I'll be reading the Hunger Games trilogy this summer.

I just finished book 1 and started book 2.  I was amazed at how closely season 1 tracked book 1.  I recognized lines of dialogue from the show while reading.  I am told season 2 deviates much more from the book and I have already started to notice differences.  Not usually into fantasy but I am enjoying GoT so far.

I read this not to long ago, I would agree good, but tedious at times.

I just finished Ms. Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.  I really liked that.  Now I am reading a kindle Freebie Blood of My Brother, which is pretty good so far.

I saw that yesterday in the Kindle store on Amazon as I was downloading book two.  Blows my mind.  So far, I haven't gotten why these books have taken off more than any other run of the mill romance novel.  I have decided to start my own drinking game every time I read "inner goodness."

    Yes

I do the same! I re-read them in April and I want to read them again already.
I cannot wait for DD to be old enough for me to start reading the HP books to her.  I'm going to go all fantastically nerdy with it and make Butter Beer and witchy foods, watch the movies together, etc.

I also re-read the Sookie books before reading the latest book. I realized that I had a tough time remembering what had happened in the first 11 books and wanted to refresh my memory before reading the 12th book.

  • I'm reading some freebie Nook books by an author named Nicky Charles. The books are all romance novels and they're about a werewolf society called Lycan. They're rather interesting and actually pretty well written. Plus, you can't beat free, lol! I always say that I'm going to read "real" books during the summer, but end up reading easy/fun stuff instead.
