Pregnancy Tickers? Starting at week 1 instead of week 4?

Hi, Have any of you found any pregnancy tickers that start at week 1 and go through full term at 37 weeks? I'm seeing on "the bump" that all of the tickers start at week "4" presumably the week your period would have been due, so that means you are only 1 week actually pregnant.  If I wanted to chart week by week (either in my signature line or any other announcement online, what would you recommend for the 1w-37w count-down? Thanks!

Re: Pregnancy Tickers? Starting at week 1 instead of week 4?

  • Why would you want to do that?  Pregnancy is considered 40 weeks long.  So basically, it's 38 weeks from the day you ovulated, plus two weeks prior to that (presumably when you last got your period, as that is considered "average").

So, any pregnancy calculators, tickers, books, etc, go by that calculation.  Therefore, if you read a book that says you are 12 weeks pregnant, then you are actually about 10 weeks from ovulation/conception, but you include the first two weeks since your last period.

There is no reason to calculate otherwise, basically, you get a free two weeks from the start, it's a great advantage!

  • Why would you want to count your pregnancy differently than all doctors and medical books? It makes absolutely no sense. I'm sorry that you don't like dating your pregnancy from 2 weeks before ovulation, but, well, that's just the way it works.

What your asking is like if I had a ticker with my age and said, "You know, everything seems to count from the day I was actually born, but I want to count from the day I was conceived! I want to put that in my ticker." Sure, you could do that, but it runs counter to the way the rest of the world does it and is a bit strange.

And ps - Full term is 40 weeks, not 37. Anything before 37 weeks is considered premature, and 37 weeks is considered "term," but not "full term."

This. I think OP needs to go back to fertility 101!

  • Ya...this is weird.  There isn't actually a thing called one week pregnant.  Because pregnancy is dated back to the fist day of your last period, but when you would be considered one week pregnant, you're not actually pregnant yet...you haven't even ovulated to be able to conceive yet.  You find out you are pregnant around 4 weeks...that's why tickers start then.  Your fetus is technically only 2 weeks old, but that's considered 4 weeks pregnant...so if you are considered 4 weeks pregnant based on your LMP, you are also considered 4 weeks pregnant for when you read baby development sites.

ETA: Andplusalso full terms is 40 weeks.  Not sure where you got 37 weeks from.  There are no countdowns for 1-37 weeks because they don't exist...because you would count down your pregnancy from 4-40 weeks.

  • Haha my husbad does this. Today I said, "Honey, I'm 8 weeks today!" Then he says, "No, you're really only 6 weeks pregnant". He says that EVERY time I tell him how pregnant I am. I'm like, ok you can call me six weeks as soon as the rest of the world decides they want to change how they determine pregnancy.

I don't really understand why you'd want to count your pregnancy as weeks 1-37- since, as the pps have pointed out, that goes against anything pregnancy related that you'll come across (your doctor, books, websites, EVERYTHING).

I'm guessing this is MUD considering you also thought your "water was breaking" when you hadn't even had a BFP yet: https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/56914701.aspx

I was just about to post this! Love you Ambsies! I personally like the comment that she probably just peed her pants and didn't want to admit it...

I think the OP might be talking about gestational age vs. fetal age.  It's confusing as all get-out, but here's a link that talks about the difference:  https://www.parentsconnect.com/pregnancy/trying-to-conceive/Gestational_Fetal_Age.html

I think I understand the difference, but I've never been one to refuse a free two-week bump.  So I'll be using gestational age, like almost everyone else.  Call me greedy.  LOL

Sorry to butt in ... back to lurking.  :)

Thanks, this is helpful.  When people are at "12 weeks" then, they are really not entering the 2nd trimester (in my books), because if you were to split the 37 weeks evenly, it would be a little over 12, 12, and 12.  So if someone is starting the 2nd trimester, they are really only 9 weeks after conceiving (12 weeks by the popular count), it makes the 1st trimester very short.  I'd rather count from actual conception as that makes more sense and I understand fetal development that way.  It just sounds like the embryo/fetus/baby is much farther along when you add 3 weeks so I'm constantly trying to do the math. :-P  Just saying!  Happy growing!

If you take 40 weeks and split that into 3, then it is 13w3d, so technically, you enter 2nd tri at about 13w3d, and 3rd tri at about 26w6d, all leading up to your due date about 13w3d after that.

I thought the spelling errors would indicate that. Guess not.

  • Yeah, but if you don't go by the accepted 40 week calendar, when you look something up online about "being 15 weeks pregnant" or whatever, you're not going to be able to find the correct information, because it's all written based on 40 weeks.  Not 37 from conception or whatever fancy way you're trying to do it.  Even doctors will think you're crazy.
