We started putting DS on the potty before he turned 2, but in a very relaxed way. His previous daycare literally did NOTHING to help our cause, so DH and I always felt like whatever headway we made on the weekend was undone at school. Now, he's at a new daycare, and his teachers said he's doing great using the potty at school.
On Friday, the director told me she thinks he's ready to send him in wearing underwear instead of diapers (they don't allow pull-ups). So we put him in underwear over the weekend. He did pretty well (only 2 accidents) with peeing in the potty, but he will not poop. It seems for a lot of kids this can take longer, but anyone have any idea of how we might encourage him to speed up the process? As soon as he goes in his pants, he announces, "I did not poop," which we know means he did, so he gets it to a certain extent. I'm a little afraid for his teachers today.
Re: How long til he gets it for poop?
my son refused to poop on the potty, it finally "clicked" for him 2 months before he turned 5! And he went like 10 times a day that first weekend.
My 1st daughter on the other hand was potty and night trained by 2.5, so in my experience girls are much easier!
