Nuva ring users a ?

My ring fell out last night and I didn't notice til thismorning. I found it on the floor and put it back in but am freaking out. Has yours ever come out? Is it a big deal? Mine is always slipping down and I have to keep pushing it back in. I swear I'm just going to ask my doc for a new prescription and go with the pill. This thing is driving me nuts.

  • Are you pushing it in far enough? It should not slip out..... I've never had a problem with this. Starting to feel a little sorry for your husband.

  • I used Nuvaring for about 7 years and I never had an issue with it falling out and generally speaking as long as it is in all the way it shouldn't fall out.  However if you are noticing that it is frequently coming out then I would highly recommend using a backup method of birth control.  I say this because if it is out for 3 hours or more the levels of the "birth control" hormones lowers and it does not work as it is suppose to.  This can lead to an unplanned pregnancy.  If you believe that it is in correctly and still if slipping out then it might be in your benefit to just go back to the pill.
  • I use a tampon thing to put it in so I always assumed it's in far enough. DH has never complained. This is the first time it's ever actually come out. Usually I can just feel it starting to slide down so I reinsert it. All I can think of is that I swear I read somewhere if your uterous is tiped a certain way it may be more likely to do this. I know I have a tilted uterous. I'm going to have to call my OB and see what he thinks.

What? What's wrong with your fingers? I promise, it's not dirty and you won't go blind for touching yourself.

And is it a used "tampon thing" or are you sacrificing one of your tampons for this endeavor each month?

  • I read that this might help get it in further, so that's why I did it. I've done it this way twice but it hasn't helped.

  • When I was on the ring I always used a tampon applicator to insert it and never had a problem with it sliding out as long as nothing else disturbed it (like a tampon or sex). I was only on it for a few months because I hated it. It messed up my cycles and I always felt weird about having sex with it in but didnt want to be taking it out all the time. I'd talk to my OB about other options if I were you.

  • I was on the Nuva Ring for four years before TTC and never once had that happen! But if I remember correctly, if it's out for longer than 2 hours, you need to use backup birth control.
