Like in a house. What's the purpose of it? I was reading a ribbon on one of my FB groups about amenities of your dream house and a few people mentioned mud rooms.
Please to explain.

It is basically a room that is off of your garage or laundry room to store coats, shoes, etc. The idea is that when you come in the house, your first stop is there.
That is what I have understood them to be.
What they said.
Mud rooms are kind of nice, but if I had the square footage, I'd want it used elsewhere.
My Blog
I agree w/ this. There is one in the house we are renting and I think it is kind of stupid. I would rather have another small bedroom. Or a walk in closet. If we decide to buy this place I am tearing it down.
I'd love one. I never cared much, but as my kids get older and spend more time outside and have more junk, it would be awesome to have a place to dump their stuff. Right now they kick off their shoes in the kitchen and the area outside the garage is littered with stuff. My coat closet is around the corner and not convenient.
If we buy/build again, it's high on the my "dream" list for sure!
ETA: However, I would not want the washer/dryer in that room. I've gotten spoiled with that on the second floor!
My dream entrance. Seriously love this! But I live where shoes come off the second you walk in the door and it's winter 7 months of the year so mud, wet, and other crap invades your house pretty quickly. Add that we want 6 kids and it's also going to be a lot of coats, shoes, boots and stuff.
When we build, we will be having an entrance similar to this!

Started our exploration into the world of international adoption June 2012. We have no idea what this is going to look like but we are excited to find out!
I would love one too. Right now we have main floor laundry just off the garage door (like, you walk through the laundry room to get out to the garage). I would like to move the laundry to the basement sometime and make that room a boot room.

Hah! How did I not realize how old this thread is?
Someone was googling mud rooms today I supppose.
I noticed the OP was CG and got confused, then I looked at the post date.
Look at the original post date.
LOL.
suepotter found this (original post date is June something) and commented on it which made it jump to the top of the board. CG is the OP, so people thought she had "come back" and then some other people just want to talk about mud rooms.
