We are finally figuring out on our own what the pediatricians, dermatologists and allergists have failed to figure out - what is causing the recurring rash on my daughter's genitals/anus and around her mouth. We finally narrowed down the suspects to bananas and tomatoes, and I have a list of all the related foods I could find on an "avoid" list until we try them one by one. We've already tried bananas and she definitely reacted. Last night we tried tomatoes (pizza) and today she has a rash all over her mouth & by tonight her perinium is literally bleeding split open & her anus is all red.
So, I'm finding it hard to feed her because the list of no-nos right now is SO long. I feel like the only thing I can give her is processed food and plain meat, because all of the allergens are fruits & nuts. I'd like to make tacos but can't because the seasoning has peppers (I can make my own, but without peppers, it won't taste like tacos!). So I thought hamburgers since it's grilling weather, but what can I use instead of ketchup?
Any other ideas, suggestions for foods right now are welcome, too!
We are currently avoiding:
banana, tomato, potato, stevia (had a reaction), avocado, kiwi, eggplant, pepper, carrot, mango, apple, cucumber, melon, zucchini, hazelnut, almonds, peach, pear, cherry, apricot, celery, plum, citrus and are questioning latex now because of the banana allergy.
Re: Ketchup alternative?
I was really allergic to tomatoes as a child and BBQ has tomatoes. I used ranch most of the time or just plain mayo.
Also, did you allergist do a blood work up or only the skin pricks? The blood test is way more accurate these days. Also, if they decline the blood test - I would seek another specialist.
As an adult with food allergies, eating right is very important.
