My DD is 3 months old. Nursing hasn't been easy since about a month old-I struggle to get her to nurse and end up pumping and giving her a bottle a couple times a day on average. We have gotten through one nursing strike that lasted a couple days. She has not wanted to nurse since last night. I've tried everything-getting her sleepy or just waking up, rocking her while nursing, different holds, pumping until I let down and then trying to latch her. She just arches her back and cries. Or the best I can get is she'll latch, such a few times and pull off and cry. I tried to fight her to nurse for 40 minutes earlier and ended up caving and giving her a bottle. What should I do? So frustrating.
Re: Nursing strike? Help!
We just went through this and it was to the point where an LC advised me LO would likely not return to nursing and I'd need to EP. We made it through the other side. Did as much skin-to-skin as possible and nuzzling at the breast when he wasn't hungry, just to have as much positive time at the boob as I could manage. If he fussed at a feeding I abandoned quickly and gave a bottle. Does your LO take a pacifier? We spent a lot of time with him sucking his pacifier and smashing his face into my boob. Also sometimes I'd put a Iittke breast milk on the pacifier to kind of warm him up. Finally, have you talked to your doctor about possible reflux? We're now on Pepcid and if seems to be helping but we're still seeing a GI specialist tomorrow. Good luck. My heart goes out to you because it's totally crazy-making.
