Cloth Diapering

Bum Genius 4.0 leaking issues!

All of DDs diapers have been leaking, and then DH realized that we were using the wrong detergent for our CDs... Bummer.  So we stripped them and switched to a CD friendly detergent, but the diapers are still leaking! We've been checking and double checking the fit, so I'm not sure what's going on here. Help!

  • Where and when are they leaking? Which liners are you using? Have you tried putting the shells in the dryer to make sure the PUL is sealed?

  • Have they always leaked? Is your LO too little to fit into them correctly? It seems like your LO is only a few weeks old. Most OS CDs will not fit well until a little later...

Ditto this! My 7 week old still isn't close to fitting them. I tried them on her yesterday, and the waist is ok, but we have a long way to go before they fit in the legs.

This.  They may stay on, but pocket diapers have to be tight against baby's bottom.  The pressure makes the urine go through the suedecloth instead of running out the sides and top.  Try again in a few weeks, they fit best when baby is about 10-12 lb.  Lucky for us, that was at 3 wks :)

Ditto what PP said about your LO being too small.

However, if you were washing in a non-CD safe detergent and then just switched ot a CD safe one, you might also have to strip your diapers to get all the other detergent out of them.

ETA: I'm an idiot. I didn't see that you stripped them already. You can also try tucking in the gussets around LOs legs. I do that with some of my diapers and it helps with the fit.

  • If your kid is only 3 weeks or so, chances are he's not going to fit comfortably in OS diapers. You need to wait until he is at least 12 lbs. to get a good fit.
