Okay... so I'm looking for a baby girl name that is sorta unique can't be shorten into a nn (like Beth for Elizabeth, etc) and isn't old fashioned. At first, we were in LOVE with Delaney, but I know I can't keep kids in school from calling her Laney and I don't like Laney (so maybe deep down I don't like Delaney??) So now I'm onto the name Chelsea. Thoughts? If you don't like it, then recommend me another good one!
Re: Chelsea
Chelsea....hmmm I don't hate it but I dont love it either. I think there are way better names out there. Here are some suggestions:
Ava, Alaina, Alexis, Alexia, Ashlyn, Ayla, Audrey, Camryn, Chloe, Corrine, Carly, Cara, Harlow, Julia, Jada, Leah, Laila, Mia, Molina, Macie, Melia, Natalia, Olivia, Rylynn, Riley, Sienna
Good Luck!

I really love the name Chelsea, but I do think it's just a tiny bit dated. But if you don't mind that, I think it's a great name and I definitely prefer it to Delaney.
However, all the Chelseas I've known often either go by or get called Chels. If that nn bothers you, you may want to keep looking.

Chelsea is just really grating to me...I don't like the sound of it at all...
Suggestions:
Audrey, Ivy, Cora, Ruby, Quinn, Lena, Vera, Scarlett, June, Hannah
I like Chelsea.
What about Lena, Lara, Mara, Ruby, Iris, Nina, Phoebe, Holly, Talia, Anya, Maeve, Daphne, Tess?
Thank you all for your thoughts. I think all names seem dated to some extent. I'm not keen on the old fashioned names like Scarlett, Vera, Lena, Ruby, etc. I do agree some names survive time and have a bit of a timelessness to them but I feel that they are either a bit old fashioned or uber popular right now. I don't mind some nicknames, but for some reason I don't like Laney.
Also, Chelsea Clinton doesn't bother me. Yes, maybe a bit awkward... but would you describe Chelsea Handler as an awkward person? I wouldn't. I say she's vibrant over the top and has a loud mouth! Total different end of the spectrum.
Thank you again for all your opinions. I appreciate them!
I LOVE your baby's name Lydia! Very beautiful choice!!
Chelsea is dated to me, but it could work; though I know Chelseas whose names get shortened to Chels a lot.
I'd look for a shorter name: Quinn, Reese, Mia, Rose, Tia, Rhea (though could be shortened), Elle, Sloane, Blair, Claire, Leah, Sylvia...
