Please help me out. We are leaving tonight for Williamsburg and Virginia Beach for a weeks vacation. Tell me what are the best things to do/see there and what is a waste of my time and money.
Please and thank you!

I lived in Williamsburg for 3 years. I like the nighttime ghost tour of colonial Williamsburg and the Williamsburg Winery. Busch Gardens is great, but Water Country USA might be better at this time of year.
I like Second Street Restaurant for burgers and it's family friendly. The Cheese Shop is great for lunch.

OOPS, yes I failed to mention...its a family vacation with DH, DD, me, my Sister, bro in law, 3 nieces (9,15,& 17) and my mom and step dad. We will probably have to split up and do different things since DD probably wont be in to doing things her older nieces will want to do.

For sure, the older ones will like Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. If I had to choose I would do Busch Gardens. There's still a bunch of stuff there to entertain your little one (plenty of dancing shows, a small kids play area and rides, etc.) and you can take turns going on the real rides. The older ones would probably also like the ghost tour. It gives them a flavor of the history without having to be dragged around the dusty streets of Colonial Williamsburg in the beating down heat. The teens I saw always looked like they wanted to murder their parents.
Winery tour for the adults if someone is willing to watch the kids for a couple hours! The winery has a great little restaurant too where you can eat with a bottle of the wine.
I had my worst family vacation ever in Williamsburg. It wasn't Williamsburg's fault - but 10 years later we still talk about it. Think Lampoon's Vacation (Busch Gardens was randomly closed, it rained the whole time, etc.)

"She definitely is just mean and doesn't have time to listen to kids problems in class. she talks down to students and I'm angry at my counselor because this is the 2nd year I've had her."
"She probably has one of the fakest personalities I ran into or will ever run into. She acts like she always does the class a favor by giving essays or assigning end of the year projects in senior year"

"Not great at explaining things, everytime someone asks her something, or to explain anything, she just sounds sarcastic, and she needs to stop complaining about being pregnant."
"***********'d do way better if she thought of herself as a teacher, not one of us. She constantly says things like "epic fail" which is just cringeworthy."
Check out virginia.org It is a great site with options to search for events, festivals, wineries, etc. I use it all the time to make weekend plans. I live in the Shenandoah Valley but my brother lives at the beach and there is always something going on down there. Have fun!!!
I'm a VB native and currently live there. We just moved back after 3 years in Williamsburg.
VB:
Walks on the boardwalk are always good for people watching. Last weekend I saw a woman wearing shorts and a bra. Yup, just a bra. You can't hide the class down there.
Waterman's is my fav of the beach restaurants. It's not particularly toddler friendly, but would be more entertaining if you sat outside.
Virginia Aquarium is fantastic.
Virginia Zoo in Norfolk is great.
Grommet Island at the beach is a fun playground for kids.
If the weather is bad and you want to go to a mall, drive to MacArthur Center in Norfolk. Lynnhaven Mall in VB has gone down the tubes and Pembroke Mall is not even worth thinking about.
Norfolk Botanical Gardens has a great splash pad area. The zoo has a small area with fountains kids can run through too.
If you want a good area for toddlers to wade, the Chesapeake Bay beaches are calmer than the ocean. However, they are much hotter too IMO so check the weather and wind speed/direction first.
Citrus off Shore Drive is my favorite for brunch, but it's packed on the weekends so go early or prepare for a long wait.
Check out Fest Events website for Norfolk festivals. There's almost always something family friendly going on at Town Point Park.
Ocean Breeze - Water park in VB near the aquarium. Haven't been in forever, but they've added a huge area for small children from what I understand. It's also cheaper than Water Country.
Williamsburg:
Colonial Williamsburg is great to walk around in. If you don't want to go in buildings it can be free. Finn LOVED walking there because of the people watching and dog watching. The Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings is one of the top rated mid-size markets on the country.
Busch Gardens - The Sesame Street area has a splash pad and there are other areas with rides for toddlers.
Water Country - I haven't been in years, but I hear there are good areas for toddlers.
You can drive down Colonial Parkway and go to Yorktown. There is a waterfront area with protected beach and shops/restaurants.
Jamestown - The area owned by the National Park Service is where the original site was. The other area owned by the Jamestown Foundation is expensive, but they have a replica fort and ships you can go on.
Mid County Park by Target on Monticello is a great playground if you need to kill a few hours.
Re: If you are from VA or have vacationed there...
Will you have LO with you?
