Kinda nervous

I'm 39 weeks + 1 d, my blood pressure has been going up and down for about a week now. One day its was super high, and my dr put me on bedrest. Since it has thankfully gone down 20 points, but not down to my usually perfect 120/80. On top of that, I'm pretty swollen all over my body.

I've been only 1 cm for about 3 weeks. Still pretty thick too. Not too many contractions, and she is still up really high. My dr. has suggested induction on Tuesday (my dd is Wednesday). I'm not against it, but at the same time I'm scared of induction. I know that my blood pressure and swelling is not good for me or baby, and I need to do whatever the dr feels is medically best. I'm just freaking out thinking, induction if my body isn't ready can lead to c-section and that scares me so bad.

I go to the dr. again tomorrow to make a final decision about Tuesday. Any words of encouragment or advice??

Re: Kinda nervous

  • I know that many women on here encourage waiting as long as possible, making it to at least 41 weeks before an induction. However, I think we have to listen to our bodies. For me, I am inducing the day of my due date (the 27th). I had high blood pressure my last two appointments and my swelling has been getting out of control. The other day my feet were so swollen they were nearly rounded on the bottom and I could not walk. I am also having pitting. I feel like I could probably make it to 41 weeks, but I do not want to take that risk if my body is already telling me that it is being pushed to far. I am terrified of the induction, as I want to have a med free birth  (I am absolutely petrified of epidurals) but I also know that it is possible and many women have successful inductions with no complications.

My advice, listen to your body. If you feel like it is time and that another week could mean even high blood pressure and even more risk, then I say go for the induction. If you think you can make it to 41 weeks with no risk to you or the baby, than that is great too!

  • I was induced at 41 weeks, but my body was ready. I was in labor for 24 hours with slow progress, my bp was super low from the epi, and we had baby heart rate decels. I was still able to have a vaginal birth. Of course all labors are different but it worked out for me.

In my short week and a half of being a mama Ive realized its about doing your best. If I thought about all the things I could be doing better, Id be going nuts. If you feel like induction is best, then go for it. If you feel like its a bad idea, speak up! Im a big believer in intuition.

You and your doctor are going to the right thing for your baby, even if that means there are some revisions to the plan. Good luck!
