Car seat /snap n go / stroller question

So we had a chance to go to BRU this afternoon and try out the couple of seats we were considering. We've decided on the Chicco keyfit 30, but haven't bought them yet. I was planning on getting a DSNG, but was just reading online that the newest model isn't compatible with the CK30, even though they say it is and it has been in the past. We also tried out the Chicco cortino double stroller with the carseats.  It just felt so bulky.  I feel like you're saving money by not getting the DSNG, which has limited use since you can't use it once the babies are out of their infant carriers, but on the other hand the double stroller was such a monster, it won't fit in one of our cars, and it seemed like a lot to wrangle with each time you want to go out.

So does anyone have this combo?  CK30 with the newest model DSNG?   If you do, how did you get the car sets to fit?  If you don't have a DSNG, what do you use?  Thanks!

Re: Car seat /snap n go / stroller question

  • Even though my system isn't actually in use yet, we bought some of the same things you did, and here was our experience. We bought the Chicco carseats and put them in the Double Snap and Go. They do technically fit, but I didn't like how they didn't actually snap in but just rest on the bars and use the belt. (I know they were perfectly safe...but I just wanted that snap!) Our coworkers bought us the Chicco Together stroller and we returned it because it was soooo heavy and bulky and I couldn't see myself using it for years. Plus it didn't fit lengthwise into the back of our Honda CRV. So we exchanged the Chicco carseats for Graco Snugride 30s and they snap into the DSNG. We also returned the stroller and spent the money (it was a lot of $$!) on other stuff.

Once they outgrow the DSNG we're going with another stroller.

  • You could always check out Craigslist for a used DSNG.  We have the Chicco's and whatever model was out October of last year of the DSNG.  While PP is right and the seats don't snap in, the drop in and then you put a strap over it so they're very secure.  If you do stick with the Chicco's and DNSG look up the video on YouTube.  My mom and I couldn't figure out for the life of us how to make the car seats work (my brother put the stroller together and tossed the manual) until I watched the video and saw that we had to remove some of the small bars on the stroller.

If you don't want to go with the DSNG you could always get the City Select with the car seat adapters (though that is expensive) or just get a double stroller where the backs recline all the way down.  We put them in the City Mini pretty early on with the backs reclined and just used the Boppy Nest Noggin to help keep them in place.

We couldn't even get our Gracos to fit without doing this.

  • We are getting the Chiccos and the Baby Jogger City Select, which acts similar to a DSNG.  The only problem is you have to use an adaptor for the Chicco seats, and from my understanding, people have the same problem (seat rests on the bars and you have to use the belt to secure them).  I just wonder why this is with the Chicco seats!  With how popular they are, you would think that they would be ore compatible with other things.

Oh well, I have heard good things about BJCS despite the snafu with the Chiccos.  Then later on you can use it as a regular tandem stroller.  It's really easy to steer.

We have this and LOVE it!  I never had any problem using the BJCS with the Keyfit car seats.  I do have the special adaptors for Chicco but I find the stroller to be very stable with the buckles.  I tried the DSNG but it was hard to steer and was difficult to push.  The BJCS was the best baby purchase that we made, IMO.

same. I don't think it's hard to push at all. I wanted to get it off of Craigslist since its only used a short time, but dh was afraid of getting "stabbed" when meeting someone to get it.. Oh well.

  • Thanks for your input, everyone!  I think we'll stick with the Chiccos and the DSNG. The bulkiness of the Chicco Cortino was too much and I don't mind using a strap to secure the seats.  Cost is also a factor and the BJCS is a little pricey.

The best part of all of this was figuring out that we could get the 2 Chiccos in the backseat of our Prius along with a FF Radian that someone gave us the other day. Woohoo!   it's going to be a tight squeeze for a while there, but we also have a minivan, so a bigger car is an option. It's just older so we don't drive it as much. Glad I don't have to give up my Prius!  I love that car. :)

I just traded in my Prius two months ago, but my mom has one and she and my sister go out with both girls and my nephew a lot in the Prius.  The DSNG fits fine in the trunk, as does the City Mini (which you can buy a runner board for your older one to stand on behind the stroller).  I'm now trying to figure out if we can fit three convertible seats across the Prius for when the girls are a little bigger.

  • We had the keyfit 30's and used the new DSNG. I watched a video on youtube to see how to get the seats to fit. They don't "snap" into place but if you remove the metal bars on the stroller they fit in nicely using the straps.
