MH said someone cheated at the polls today

As he was walking in, a guy was walking out, talking to his companion and said "now I'm worried....that I'll get caught for cheatin'!".

Wonder what that was all about.

Maybe he voted twice or maybe he gave a false name.  They don't check ID or voter cards at my polling place.

  • They don't check IDs?  How is that legal?
  • Surely if he was really doing something wrong, he wouldn't be stupid enough to say that out loud. I hope.

  • Why wouldn't they check id's?  That's strange.
  • Don't they have to check ID's and have you sign something saying it was you who is voting.

I'm sure he was saying it in jest.

  • I've never had my id checked in the last 5 presidential elections.
  • They don't check IDs here, either. ?I have always joked with my non-voting sister that I was going to go back and vote under her name. ?It would be really easy to give someone else's name and address and vote for them.

Side note: ?my 29 year old sister voted for the first time today! ?I'm so proud of her!?

  • I think the vote varies by state as far as ID.

In Indiana, we have to show a picture ID, issued by the state or federal government, I think.

  • It has only been very recently that an ID is required in my state. It was actually a very controversial bill- lots of people thought that requiring an ID was a way to discourage certain people from voting (for instance, the poor or elderly, disabled, etc. may not always have a valid, non-expired ID.)
  • They don't check ID at my polling place, but you have to verify your info and sign the slip before they give you the card.

I tried to have DS vote for DH, because we missed the absentee ballot deadline. LOL They wouldn't let him.

  • In our state you have to provide a photo ID or a current paycheck, utility bill or something that shows your name and current address - the one that matches your voter registration information.
  • We do not have to provide ID in WI.

Ditto Cleo. Its very controversial to require ID to vote.

  • They didn't check my id. I"m in IL.

  • Maybe he was talking about cheating on his girlfriend. Or his GRE. Or on his application for a Macy's Visa card.  ;)

  • No ID here either.  But they do check name and address in 2 different books and then write down the number of the ballot next to the name.  Now that I think about that, they could use it to find out who I voted for.  Hmm...

  • People are stupid.  There is an NBC interview with a voter in line who had ALREADY voted.  He was going to vote again and again!  Guess he doesn't know he can go to jail for doing so.  I doubt once he gets in he will be able to...but he was trying to (that is the point).
