Taking L. Acidophilus During Pregnancy?

So prior to getting pregnant I, unfortunately, suffered from frequent yeast infections. It seemed to happen after intercourse or before/after my period. My OBGYN suggested I eat lots of yogurt and take a L. Acidophilus supplement. I've read it's fine to take it during pregnancy but I wanted to ask you ladies what you're heard or read. Thanks!

Re: Taking L. Acidophilus During Pregnancy?

  • Yep, it's fine. I talked to my OB and she told me to definitely keep taking it due to recurrent yeast infections. I did my own research and found that it also has advantages for the baby. One being up to a 50% lower chance of allergies!

  • I also take a probiotic every day!  I had a yeast infection when I conceived and I'd like to do anything to prevent others recurring.

  • I used to have this problem as well, so I started taking Azo Yeast (OTC med available at most grocery stores and pharmacies). Its a miracle pill. One pill to prevent yeast infections, or 3 a day to cure one. If I felt one coming on, usually one pill a day for a couple of days was enough to prevent it. The active ingredient is mistletoe (weird, I know). My dr said it was ok during pregnancy but you may want to double check with yours.
