Whole Milk or Something else?

After breastfeeding or formula feeding what do you plan on giving LO, whole milk or something different. If something different, why?

Re: Whole Milk or Something else?

  • Organic whole cows milk. Because there haven't been enough controlled studies/evidence of the effects of plant based milks on toddlers. That being said, I will offer almond and coconut milk as a supplement to WCM...But she gets primarily WCM.

  • Same....also b/c I don't want to be at someone else's house and LO can't have milk b/c they only have WCM.  I bought some coconut milk the other day just to try and it was nasty.

Goat milk. It's closer in composition to human milk than cow milk.

  • Just plain whole milk.  He's almost fully on it.  No problems here.

  • Good to know. Thanks for your answers. Every time I try giving Dylan yoghurt or WCM he spits it up and it smells and looks like curdled sour milk. He's on soy formula now because he can digest it better than regular formula that is made with WCM.

I was going to ask my doctor next week what I should start giving him- WCM, Soy or Almond Milk.

DS #1 was on Soy milk for almost a year because he hated WCM. I gave him super fattening yoghurt that was 8% M.F to make sure he was getting enough fat but I can't do that with Dylan because he'll spit the yoghurt up right now. BAH! ;)

  • We're doing soy milk (dairy intolerance).  Ii talked with the pedi and she said the fat content is the same as wcm and there is actually more calcium!

I think we'll be going to the soy route. I don't think he's lactose intolerant, but I think WCM is too hard for Dylan to digest right now. On his soy formula he still spits up a bit but it's not curdled and sour smelling.

  • I don't know. I hate milk myself so I find it hard to want DD to drink it. Just watching people drink cow milk makes me gag. I'm hoping she can stay on bm until I get over it or we find another solution.

  • I guess something different - I plan to continue BFing until age2+ so I see no need to introduce WCM. We will nurse evenings/weekends and I have a huge freezer stash. I plan to stop pumping by 13m, and once I run out of frozen milk, he will just get water during the day.

  • Thanks for all your answers ladies.

I just gave Dylan some almond milk. He seems to enjoy it and so far no spitting up curdled sour milk... I still plan on talking to my doctor about almond milk/ WCM/ or soy. I bought the almond milk for me because I've heard so many good things about it. I just bought the plain and it's actually pretty good- atleast I think it's good.
