I know that many doctors say that to be on the safe side with listeria, we're supposed to avoid this. But I SERIOUSLY can't wrap my head around a summer without my Dairy Queen! So I'm curious: are you giving it up? (I personally am not eating deli meat without heating it but I had a blizzard last week and I'm planning on another one tonight. That's the random logic of a pregnant woman for you. hahaha)
ETA: I don't have my first doctor's appointment til next Wednesday, so I will follow my doctor's orders about this if he mentions it in the pamphlet. *Fingers crossed it doesn't say anything! lol*
Re: Are you giving up soft serve ice cream?
It was in the packet from my last doctor to avoid uncooked deli meat and soft-serve ice cream due to risk of listeria - but that was 2008 so that's why I'm asking.

I have heard that soft serve ice cream is on the "Do Not Eat" list, however, eff no, i am not giving it up. I just stay away from the sketchy places and quick shops.
PS 12 wk check today and this soft cheese-deli-meat-soft-ice-cream and blackened-chicken eating pregnant lady got gold stars for growing babies with strong heartbeats.

I thought store bought mayo had raw eggs in it therefore should not be eaten??? They always say check the labels but sometimes they are not helpful. I hope I am wrong about this b/c I don't know how to live a life without mayo!
This. I heard the deli meat is okay, but only in moderation. I refuse to give up ice cream. It is my ONE constant craving.
No I'm not giving up Soft Serve.
Honestly I don't give up anything except alcohol when I'm pregnant.
I ready this while eating a piece of ice cream cake from dairy queen! I will heat my lunch meat but I dont plan on giving up ice cream?!
This, ffs its common sense. Some of this food crap is pissing me off. Whatever people if you wanna live your pregnancies eating basically nothing, have at it. I will be enjoying myself.
Obviously I misunderstood what I read and thought it applied to all mayo and not just the homemade stuff. Thanks for the clarification.
I'm not saying don't eat soft serve or lunch meat, but there was a listeria outbreak a year ago, it's not super uncommon. I work with the health department in my city sometimes. It's not the biggest risk but it's also not that rare.
My phone won't let me edit. I meant listeriosis outbreak, and it was in cantelope. I guess my point is, to avoid listeria you'd have avoid a ton of things. So eat what you want, just be smart.
Thank god for this discussion board. I have been going mental the last couple of weeks. I'm so hungry, yet so nauseous, I am barely eating and when I do it isn't always healthy. My hubby is the same as one previous poster - I know he is concerned about me eating healthy (so am i!) but right now I'm feeling like if a bowl of ice cream and chocolate is going to stay down then that's what's for supper. I'm telling myself that once this morning/all day sickness is done with I am going to be eating super healthy! I hope...
My Mom keeps telling me not to stress, eating something not great for you will probably do less damage than stressing about it day in and day out.
Mine didn't either. I ate a ham sandwich yesterday and it was to DIE for. I've eaten a lot of ham sandwiches thus far and seem to be just fine! I also once ate soft served ice cream 6 days in a row....A ROW! You'll be fine to continue eating the ice cream....

No, I don't consider eating Dairy Queen high risk behavior.
My husband does that too! I was at the doctor yesterday and she said that I should eat what makes me feel good until I hit week 12 because I have been so sick off and on for the last 6 weeks.... of course we are suppose to eat as healthy as possible but if all you are doing is throwing up eating some chicken doesn't seem to do it.... so tell your hubby to relax and what you need until you get passed this first tri!
