confused?

So, being in a same sex relationship, we obviously have to have a sperm donor.  I know the only day that I ever put sperm in me, which was 3 weeks ago.  The doctor says I'm 5 weeks according to my due date. Do I tell her what day I met with the sperm donor to get an accurate date or just let it go as they say? I know I'm not 5 weeks though.  She's judging it off of the first day of my last period.. Don't know what to do! Please help :-)

they calculate the due date for all pregnancies from the date of your last period. It is correct.

Even though you inseminated on a particular day, that doesn't mean you conceived on that day--you may not have ovulated that day...it may have been a day, two days, three days later, etc.

Our doc always said our due date was April 21st based on DW's last menstrual period...we knew that was impossible because we didn't inseminate until 2 days later, so we always said privately that the due date was April 23rd.  We let our doc know that, so they were aware, but it did not change our records.  But, two days doesn't make much of a difference.

By the way, you probably know this, but when you count weeks of pregnancy, you do count the time before you conceived. So, for example, if you inseminated 3 weeks ago, then you are 3 weeks + however much time occurred between your last period and the insemination...which is probably about 5 weeks.  So, on the day you conceived, you were actually probably considered "about 2 weeks pregnant."  Just in case you're thinking you're only 3 weeks...

Ok I understand that.  In order to see how far along the baby is with growing, do I just put in the due date and leave it alone?

Yep, just put in the due date the doctor gave you. 

You are technically 2 weeks pregnant when you conceive (because pregnancy is counted from your last menstrual period) so 5 weeks sounds right if you inseminated 3 weeks ago.

It does make sense in a way to add that two extra weeks in, because the date of your last period is when your body started prepping itself for a baby. The prep period is just considered part of the pregnancy.

yes  this..... amazing that you can be 2 weeks pregnant with out even having sperm anywhere close to yo u!!! its confusing ...
