I was looking at the local, small town USA, newspaper last night. There was a girl, 17 or 18, named Hunter. I'm not even a fan for a boy. Definantly not telling DH. If we ever have another baby he'll want to use his favorite name for either sex!
The first Hunter I ever met is a female; she's now in her 30s. I liked it at the time as it wasn't the least bit trendy. There's also an older soap star named Hunter who's female. Of course, that might be her stage name.

I know some people object to the -son names for girls (I'm indifferent on this point), but I think that -er names are much worse. Something like Harper isn't so bad because "harp her" doesn't mean anything (though anything can sound dirty with the right inflection). But Hunter, Ryder, Parker, etc. ? they really bother me.

You're thinking of Hunter Tylo, but that's not her birth name. Hunter was her last name. I really don't like the name, especially for a girl.

Here's my thoughts on names for girls in general....think... if they decide to take a husband's name someday...what if his last name is Hunt or Hunter??? When picking a girl name, in my opinion, it's important to think about last names...not just your last name.
I know a girl named Hunter. I don't like boy names on girls, but this one especially rubs me the wrong way. I am not the least bit interested in hunting, so I myself would find it very odd if my name was Hunter. Or what if little Hunter grows up to be a vegetarian or something?! Probably unlikely, but still kind of weird.
NO NO NO. My DH loves this name for a boy. I think it's awful!!
Same here. He thinks it's the greatest. I told him just because he likes to go hunting doesn't mean we should use it as a name. He also likes football, baseball and basketball but we wouldn't use those!
