1st Trimester

Advice needed

So I play softball three nights a week, and im wondering at what point should i stop playing? I play shortstop so i get a lot of balls hit to me. over the past 2 weeks i have been a little nervous about the ball taking a bad hop and hitting me in the stomach (not sure how much of an impact that makes on the pregnancy or not but i am a first timer so i get nervous). Anyone been in this situation?? and if so at what point did you stop playing?

  • I wouldn't take any chances. It's not worth it. But if you want to keep playing you should ask your doctor.

  • Like the PP said, talk to your doctor.  I'm also KU for the first time and a softball player (catcher).  I play on a recreation league where it's slow pitch.  On top of that my position allows me to wear a lot of padding.  My doctor said that considering this I can play untill I become uncomfortable.

However, even with slow pitch balls can get hit really hard really fast.  I would not be comfortable playing short stop.  Can you ask your team to move you somewhere else? Maybe outfield?

I was on a kickball team when I found out. I just quit when I found out b/c people fall all the time in kickball?which sounds dumb but it is so true. I busted butt a couple of times pre-prego and just decided it wasn't worth it. I'm kind of a clutz anyway.  However, it's up to you and your doctor.

  • I would quit but I'm not a real sporty girl so it doesn't take much for me to quit physical activities. I'd ask your OB what they think - they might recommend you leaving now. A baseball to the uterus area is probably less than ideal.
