So we took DD to the physiatrist on Friday and he wrote a script for an AFO brace in order to help her stand and have more weight bearing on her right leg and foot (she currently puts most pressure on her left and sort of swings her right). Has anyone had experience using these? Did it make a difference?
Thanks!
Re: AFO Brace?
We have AFOs for both feet for DS' low muscle tone and I think they do help a lot. They just give that extra support to make him feel comfortable bearing weight evenly and trying more things.
We get the Old Navy ankle cuff socks and unroll them all the way up to right below his knees. Then we fold the top over the AFO. They are nice and thin, and protect his skin.
You can pick fun patterns for the AFO, too. Our first set was "bugs" and now he has fish.
Us too, except DS has high tone. They work great for proper positioning of the foot and ankle while standing. DS has racecars on his.
We use the children's place cuffed socks but i hat the grips on the bottom. Target sells some sock that are tall enough and have no grippies. but it's hit or miss if they actually have them.
