Girl Name: Odelia Claire - Clicky!

We are just starting to talk about names, and we're team green, so we'll need both a boy and girl name. But our first idea for a girl is Odelia Claire - she would be named after DH's grandparents Otto, Clara, and Charles. Odelia means "praise God" in Hebrew, we would pronounce it o-deel-ya (not o-dell-ya). DH prefers Claire to Clara. LN starts with W, 2 syllables, rhymes with "stick".

  • I prefer Cordelia to Odelia, but it's not a bad name.

  • I dig it!
    Downright love it actually.

It's normal, different, spelled right. Gets my vote.

I went to HS with an Odelia who went by Delia a good share of the time. I thought it was so cute.

I voted SS - I like Claire Odelia. It flows better for me but I find both names very pretty!

  • I don't hate it but I'm not a fan either. Odelia just sounds really close to a lot of names- Cordelia, Ophelia, Adelia, Amelia, etc- that is too sound-alike to me. I like Delia on its own though.

  • I think some people wouldn't know how to pronounce it like you prefer. Would that bug you? (I would have pronounced it O-dee-lee-ah, not O-deel-yah).

I think as a pp pointed out it's close enough to other names that the pronunciation wouldn't be too big a deal. I am sure some people might ask and I would expect some people would also ask about spelling. DH and I both have relatively common names that people still mispronounce and there are multiple common spellings so we are asked to confirm them for people. As long as it doesn't come off as you-neek where everytime someone sees it their eyes hurt trying to figure it out it wouldn't bother me.

  • I like this one. Also, what about Odette?

     I wouldn't give you the side-eye, though.

    This.

I prefer Cordelia or even Ophelia, but it's not bad, especially since you're trying to honor relatives.

  • Love it!

I normally prefer Clara to Claire, but in this case, it flows better with Claire. Solid, solid choice. Look no further.
