Just wondering if you felt it was accurate? I looked it up and it is supposed to be the most accurate test. . My lo was tested with it along with parent rating scales and observation of psych and sl therapist. He came out with zeros on all of the ados. He has been receiving speech services for articulation for about a year but also throws wicked fits. Just trying to figure out if it is asd or just terrible twos. They think he is just frustrated from his speech delay, he is abt 20-30% intelligible but scores high cognitively. Sorry so long, just confused.
Re: Anyone's LO tested for ASD with the ADOS??
I asked about the ADOS a while back because my son has a PDD dx, but the Dr. did not perform the ADOS. The school has proposed the ADOS. Auntie told me it was the "gold standard" for an ASD dx and that any child dx as on the spectrum should have this test done at some point.
We signed consent, but it will not be completed till next school year. Passing(I'm not sure this is the correct term) the ADOS does not necessarily mean your child does not have Autism. My friend's son passed the ADOS, but was given a PDD dx a year later. I do not think it is a good tool for picking up PDD. I'm sure Auntie will explain more.
Trevor was also severely speech delayed . He did not speak until 3.5. His delays in social skills were thought to be due to the speech delay, but as he develops, the deficits grow. He received the PDD dx this winter at age 6. I was told time and time again that he was "too social" for an ASD. My gut always told me otherwise.
Yes, the ADOS was part of my DD1's autism testing.
I wasn't present for it (DH took her to the testing), but he said that that test in particular was hard for her and showed her deficits.
She received an autism dx, and much of the other testing showed her to be in the typical range for most things, except speech, where she does have a delay. But the pragmatic interaction-type stuff that ADOS examines are, and remain, her biggest issues, so I wasn't surprised. I think it gave us a pretty accurate picture of what was going on with her, but that was combined with a series of other tests.

This is important to note. We were told that "failing it" didn't necessarily mean you did have autism and "passing it" didn't mean you didn't have it by a developmental pediatrician. She had told us that you also have to know the child and know if it was an off day, etc. We have 3 children with autism. One qualifies for PDD_NOS through the ADOS as he scored a 7 on the test. I don't understand what the numbers mean but I can tell you his score was 7. The doctor observed him first, talked to us, had him doing some assessments through play with someone else; this was through a developmental peds office. When he had it done through a psychologist office during a genetic study, he had an ADOS and ADI-R and it showed up on both that he had PDD_NOS. They observed him, talked to him, did the ADOS and after told us they wanted to do the ADI-R.
My other 2 boys will not score in range on an ADOS but they both have PDD_NOS. The geneticist for my 4 year old said he presents with enough features and has an issue with the ADOS because he tries to socialize with adults. He doesn't know how to with kids. My other son is the same way. He tries to socialize with adults but won't with kids.
