Baby Names

Please be honest!

Does Oliver Fisher sound bad?

DH is stuck on the name Oliver, and although I love it, it sounds awful with our last name.

At first I was going to say that yes, it sounds bad.  But after I said it a few times aloud, I sort of like it! It sounds like a name out of a Dickens novel - not that that is a bad thing! Just has that ring to it.

    I think it's cute.

That's so funny!! I thought the EXACT same thing. It sounds so storybook.

  • We have the exact same problem with our LN and ended up nixing Asher as a middle name b/c of it :(

  • I think that fn and ln are fine as long as you break them up with a mn that doesn't end in 'er'. My husbands fn and ln both end in 'son' but it is not bad and his mn breaks it up too.

  • His mn will more than likely be Bradley.

     So Oliver Bradley Fisher

  • I really like Oliver, but not with your last name. I grew up with my fn & ln ending in er and I hated it

Sounds like a character from a Dickens novel to me too. It NMS, but its definitely not bad.

  • I love the name Oliver. It's been at the top of my list for years.

I had to say the whole name aloud quite a few times - but I don't think it sounds bad. At first I didn't like the "er" at the end of both names.. but after saying it out loud I realized it's not terrible.

  • I think it sounds fine. I definitely wouldn't nix it because of the flow. IMO it really isn't bad. Oliver is a good pick.

I don't love the double -ers but I do love Oliver. I'm having a similar issue with with my fiance's last name too! I think it is important for you to not only love the first name but love the way they sound together.

  • Oliver is a great name. The flow isn't the greatest with Fisher but it's not so bad that I'd nix it on the basis of that alone.

  • Super cute! It goes well because in the name "Oliver" there is so much emphasis on the "O" that you don't hear much of the "-er". Plus "O" is a cute first initial.

  • I don't like the double -er ending.  Even if you broke it up with a non -er middle name, how often do you say the whole name?  Not alot.

I'd try and find something else.

  • No, doesn't sound bad I like Oliver :]
